Karo w/o syringe
    #2073562 -

I wanna do the karo tek but im not getting a syringe until this weekend. Any way i could do it and scrape spores from print into karo water. Would this be sterile if i left it in the microwave to cool for a couple hours then did it right inside the microwave. Any suggestions?

if you can't wait, and you have a print, now is the ideal time to make your first syringes - just think, you'll be independent!

when you have your syringe, squirt 1ml of it into your sterile, cooled karo water, and badabing....myc

Go to the nearest halfway house and tell then you need a few needles. They'll give `em to ya! free on top of it!

Shirley, i think he is saying he is waiting for an EMPTY syringe, not a spore syringe.

Hydro, u need to explian a lil clearer...

I dont understand this line: "Would this be sterile if i left it in the microwave to cool for a couple hours then did it right inside the microwave."

i think you should wait for your syringe to come.... i wish i was in this hobby when i had my dog. She was a diabetic and i had a prescription for syringes which i picked up at walgreens. i would get over 100 at a time. I think walmart sells syringes for food injection. The only difference is that the syringes dont have any marking for measurment on them (i dont use the measurments anyways). They might be a little lager in size, im not sure.

ah, ok.

sure, give it a go. i dunno about the microwave, cos the lid is prolly metal, so (if no pc) try a saucepan of boiling water for an hour, with the jar lid not quite tight. i'm guessing you don't have a flowhood, and that your contam rates with this tek will be high, so do a half dozen jars and a couple will hopefully do okay

I read the Karo Tek but I couldn't find out the exact Karo to water ratio I should put in a one pint jar. Anyone know? Thanks.

Thanks.

And I inject the mycelium I suck up from the colonized jar into the Karo jar so the mycelium colonizes the Karo jar, right?
