so how do i become a mod?

im in OTD for a large chunk of my day, at least 3 hours. There is a thread there that was asked to be moved into ODD, and it hasn't been moved in like 4 hours, so i guess we need another mod in there. I'm willing to work for chicken cookies, or just for the status of mod.

evilnick for mod.


*edit: I'd also like to note, that despite that OTD has had more traffic recently because of the changes to the access rules, the pub still has more mods.

i know. I didn't want to say that i'm there for like 8 hours a day, if i didn't have to.

It increases my chances of getting to be a mod, but shows how sad my life is.

To become a Mod it requires 5,000 posts, 3 years membership, no fear to ban people, a commitment to a team, excellent diplomacy skills, BALLS, posting 6-10 hours a day, no personal life to speak of and lips that love ass.

Finally you need a solid recommendation...............

To be a mod, you have to be popular with the mods and admins. This is why I'll never be a mod, no matter how dedicated I am to this site.

So is being dedicated to this site putting the Mods and Admins in first light ? I mean to be a team player you must join the team. Not just hanging in the bleachers....... Right ? You might just be a decated fan and that is ok :laugh:

Don't spread misinformation.. to be a mod you have to be a consistent level-headed poster with at least some shroomery history that shows you are capable of holding the mod position and being fair and want to serve the community. It has nothing to do with popularity. Maybe it did in 1999, but not anymore.

Bullshit looner2. Quit talking out of your ass.
Mr_Mushrooms didn't pass no torch... he quit and trendal was nominated months later. Mods are picked based on how active they are in the respective forum and if they are good mod material.. not if they are buddy buddy to past mods.

Bullshit, indeed.  The only reason being buddy-buddy with a mod might help your cause is because said mod may be more inclined to suggest your name when there is a perceived lack of moderation in any given forum.  But that's not the end of the story, nominations are encouraged from all of our mods and admins, and even users.  While self-nominated users are not usually given a mod spot (in large part because when they ask there usually isn't a need for more mods), they will be considered just as everyone else is. 

The process can be done many different ways.  It was once done on votes, but that was horribly biased and will likely not be done again.  The method that I attained my modship through (and has been implemented in more recent times as well) is to answer a thread calling for users who would be interested in modding.  These threads, when used, would be made in the forum that is seeking new mods.  Then once we have an appropriate list of candidates, we take the discussion to the mod forum, where the entire staff can mull over the public input on the candidates as well as their own private perceptions.  Afterall, we're not going to put a mod on the team that has a personal conflict with an already existing staff member - that would just invite internal conflict which is something we can definitely do without around this drama filled community, or dramunity :grin:

Perhaps I should clarify my statement: I didn't say that said popularity is necessarily unearned. My point was that the mods and admins are the ones who choose who gets to be mods, so the mods and admins must have a favorable opinion of that person in order to mod them. The reason I said I would never be a mod is not because I feel the administration has some sort of grudge against me, but rather because I have been so vocal in my opposition to many administrative decisions.

Don't assume being vocal in opposition of administrative decisions will disqualify anyone from becoming a moderator.  In fact, if the dissenter is voicing their concern/disagreement in a thought out and respectful manner, this is likely someone that we would encourage to become a moderator, should the need arise in one of the forums they frequent and hold some expertise in. 

Challenging ideas is always necessary for real progress.  We are human, and suseptible to many errors over the course of our lives.  I know that I have made bad decisions during my time here, so it is integral that we readily receive feedback on our actions such that we may re-evaluate our stance for future purposes, and to decide whether a change in the current structure is necessary.  Mistakes are inevitable; it's learning from them that is important. 

A different perspective is always key to a more objective understanding - one of the principle reasons I engage in various forms of recreational drug use. :mushroom2:
