so how do i become a mod?

im in OTD for a large chunk of my day, at least 3 hours. There is a thread there that was asked to be moved into ODD, and it hasn't been moved in like 4 hours, so i guess we need another mod in there. I'm willing to work for chicken cookies, or just for the status of mod.

evilnick for mod.


*edit: I'd also like to note, that despite that OTD has had more traffic recently because of the changes to the access rules, the pub still has more mods.

To become a Mod it requires 5,000 posts, 3 years membership, no fear to ban people, a commitment to a team, excellent diplomacy skills, BALLS, posting 6-10 hours a day, no personal life to speak of and lips that love ass.

Don't spread misinformation.. to be a mod you have to be a consistent level-headed poster with at least some shroomery history that shows you are capable of holding the mod position and being fair and want to serve the community. It has nothing to do with popularity. Maybe it did in 1999, but not anymore.

Mr_Mushrooms didn't pass no torch... he quit and trendal was nominated months later. Mods are picked based on how active they are in the respective forum and if they are good mod material.. not if they are buddy buddy to past mods.

Bullshit, indeed.  The only reason being buddy-buddy with a mod might help your cause is because said mod may be more inclined to suggest your name when there is a perceived lack of moderation in any given forum.  But that's not the end of the story, nominations are encouraged from all of our mods and admins, and even users.  While self-nominated users are not usually given a mod spot (in large part because when they ask there usually isn't a need for more mods), they will be considered just as everyone else is. 

The process can be done many different ways.  It was once done on votes, but that was horribly biased and will likely not be done again.  The method that I attained my modship through (and has been implemented in more recent times as well) is to answer a thread calling for users who would be interested in modding.  These threads, when used, would be made in the forum that is seeking new mods.  Then once we have an appropriate list of candidates, we take the discussion to the mod forum, where the entire staff can mull over the public input on the candidates as well as their own private perceptions.  Afterall, we're not going to put a mod on the team that has a personal conflict with an already existing staff member - that would just invite internal conflict which is something we can definitely do without around this drama filled community, or dramunity :grin:

Perhaps I should clarify my statement: I didn't say that said popularity is necessarily unearned. My point was that the mods and admins are the ones who choose who gets to be mods, so the mods and admins must have a favorable opinion of that person in order to mod them. The reason I said I would never be a mod is not because I feel the administration has some sort of grudge against me, but rather because I have been so vocal in my opposition to many administrative decisions.

Don't assume being vocal in opposition of administrative decisions will disqualify anyone from becoming a moderator.  In fact, if the dissenter is voicing their concern/disagreement in a thought out and respectful manner, this is likely someone that we would encourage to become a moderator, should the need arise in one of the forums they frequent and hold some expertise in. 

Challenging ideas is always necessary for real progress.  We are human, and suseptible to many errors over the course of our lives.  I know that I have made bad decisions during my time here, so it is integral that we readily receive feedback on our actions such that we may re-evaluate our stance for future purposes, and to decide whether a change in the current structure is necessary.  Mistakes are inevitable; it's learning from them that is important. 

A different perspective is always key to a more objective understanding - one of the principle reasons I engage in various forms of recreational drug use. :mushroom2:

3 hours .... mwwwwwahahahahahahah thats not alot .... I forgot to go to a final today because I was posting @ the shroomery.  Anyway I agree on the mod part otd should have 1 more mod. I would love to be a mod but I have only been here a short few months. When I am here in 2050 maybe they'll see I have dedication !!! :dancing: I :heartpump: The Shroomery.

Get your stories straight, man. When I first became a moderator it was because Other-Drugs (back when it was just called OD) needed a new moderator. The admin posted a sticky thread asking if anyone wanted to be a mod. Since that was the forum I was always posting in at the time, I thought I would give it a shot. I didn't know who Mr.M, or half the staff, was at the time. Actually I just went back and checked out the thread in Mod forum where they discussed who to add to the mod staff of OD...and Pappy was the only one who mentioned my name  :blush:

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I take no offense at all Geo, I have great resppect for you guys because its
difficult to run a board of this size and make the decisions that you make
regarding most aspects of dealing with us...

Id like to be an OTD mod. Im responsible...I always try to post interesting topics and never try to break the rules. I dont abuse powers and Ive been a mod on other forums and chatrooms. (currently an op in irc)  Also I come on at weird hours when no OTD mods are around.

I also have a negative shroom rating from 3D! :grin: thats gotta be worth somethin!:lol::beer:

careful what you ask for, i used to love ODD then i was a mod and after the whole "wow i can see the special forum and have a green name" thing wore off i haven't been back to that forum much at all since, it made this place a job rather than a place to come chill.

not to mention all the bullshit drama, i gotta hand it to the admins and mods for dealing with that shit everyday but sometimes i think it just pans out way to far and maybe they get off on that kinda thing :shrug:

the best way to become a mod is to participate in the forum you want to mod, work on improving it and keeping a level head, being respectful and :::not ask to be one::: most people that ask want to be a mod because the green name and a sense of power gives them a hard-on, power on an internet forum yeehaw :lol: and the admins are good at picking that up i guess because i never got that feeling off most of the current mods, some i'm not familar with so i say most.
