This is all opinion, and we could go in circles for eternity.

Opinion is subject to perception which "matters" to the perceiver, but objectively it does not matter how you emotional respond to external stimulis.

""This is all opinion, and we could go in circles for eternity.""

what if that circles, are part of a bigger spiral?

like if you zoom in on a image you can not see it, just color
and if you zoom out on a image you can not see it, just the 'out line'.
if you keep zooming, eventually, some change(time?), now here, you will have seen the whole picture, even though there is no image you could go and watch as a whole?
zoming beeing focus and I a nut? *:P

Of course it doesn't matter objectively. It's all subjective.

You are a subject of yourself. You are also a subject of objectivity. If objectivity didn't matter or make anything matter by not giving itself meaning, how did you, the subject , find yourself here?

Just something to play with............ after all the answer is subjective ha ha

Psyka, my first reply here was about realising that yes, you can choose to make nothing matter in the objective and subjective sense and that itself will matter to you. We have choices, we can choose to make things matter by the meaning we give them. personally, I have never seen anyone remove themselves from the equation either other then through physical death.

So, while your here, why not create a lot of cool matter with cool meaning? if your not, your probably creating a lot of shitty matters with dire depressive meaning.

Who lives without meaning, really truley? It sounds all new agey fancy but give me a break. Even Buddha gave subjective meaning to nothing via a subjective state he called Nirvana. Objectively speaking, Nirvana doesn't exist.

I know its new age fancy to align with the objective of nothing, but if the objective of nothing was truly nothing, where did you the subject of something come from and why?

The answer is never subjective. Subjectivity is prone to change. Objectivity is a constant.

If a nuke went off near your house, what does it matter what you're feeling? You're still dead.

Object is the computer you're receiving information from. Objective is gravity, nuclear forces, and mass.

and I'll restate:
The answer is never subjective. Subjectivity is prone to change. Objectivity is a constant.

Are you dead yet psyka? :poke:

Even if your body dies, is your subjective consious changed into another form?

really, are you breathing????????????????/

if a fire burns down your house and you make it out alive, what does it matter what you are feeling, you are alive.

Dude, discussing with you is like flicking a lighter that has no fuel.

I just noticed your sig. Your wick hasn't burnt out yet man and even then what is the flame of your mind made of? What is the infinite made of?

......anything can also be something else.

Take an empty glass jar? What does it mean to you? Whats its worth?

You can put it on a pedastal, spot light it and admire it's emptyness.

You can admire it's potential to be filled with something.

You can put it in the back corner of the garage and years later find it filled with cobwebs and dead bugs.

You can fill it with jam or gumballs or thumtacks or spices, or scented poutpouri, enjoyable things and tie a bow around the jar and give it as a gift. Another can use and enjoy the gift, refill it and give it to another.

Empty jars good for nothing go unfilled-unfullfilled.

What is the empty glass jar to anyone?

Ouch stop prodding it hurts :frown: (hahaha that icon is funny, though).

What I'm getting at is how people let the conditions that they've set become who they are, because they believe it matters. They become so intertwined with their own opinions and emotions they filter out much of their ability to expirence the variety which we are provided. When I say nothing matters, I mean liberate your mind from your petty problems...step back and laugh at what you thought was serious and realize its just the silly game of life.

All which we think and do in the end doesnt matter, so just smile, live and let live (and let die),  and expirence with no conditions. Nothing matters. Its more like a huge sigh of relief than a nihilistic condition.

We cant help but feel, we are human. But we should not let our feelings get in the way of rational decisions. Objectivity as opposed to subjectivity serves as a greater good for all of mankind.

I agree

What is the difference between one who feels joy in nothing mattering and one who feels dispear in nothing mattering.

That's what I was writing on in my first reply here..

Nice candle flicker by the way. Your jar is filled with skittles today eh?

I sometimes understand that "nothing matters" idea... but then sometimes I understand that there is a point and it is my goal to find out, and other times I understand that nothing inheritently has meaning but I have to assign it meaning myself.

This whole "the material world is meaningless, lets kill ourselves" thing goes back to a false promise made by Descartes. By trying to find a pure, metaphysical, indubitable base for knowledge ("I think therefore I am") he claims to have found the seat of truth in the external world. The problem is that if he truly doubts everything, he cannot help but discover that truth is nowhere to be found in the external world. The statement "I think therefore I am" is not without assumption: ie that there is a singular I who is thinking, that thinking implies existing, that existence is possible (Nietzsche). Thus, we are promised that truth is something outside of ourselves, and when we discover the impossibility of its existence there, we conclude that it never existed and fall into despair.

Until Descartes tried to remake the world after mathematics, we did not have this attachment to truth as something which exists outside of ourselves, and there are still possible alternatives to this view. What we have to realize is that we cannot reflect on the truth of our being, because being is more fundamental than truth. We are "always already" caught up in the project of existence. Philosophy's task, then, is to examine life as it emerges before us. We don't need to rid ourselves of all false assumptions to begin to approach the truth, we can begin from where we are, here and now.

With this method of examining the world, Heidegger points us back toward the fundamental distinction between truth for the Greeks (aletheia)and truth for the Romans (veritas)which later becomes the truth of all modern Western civilization. The antithesis of veritas is falsus. Truth here is seen as the differentiation of statements into the category of true and that of false. The relationship is fundamentally different in Greek philosophy. The opposite of aletheia is lethe meaning forgetting, hiddenness, or oblivion. The literal translation of a-lethe-ia is to bring something out of a state of concealment. So instead of differentiating statements into the true and the false, we are able to say that many things about our being are hidden (lethe), but through investigation we may reveal them (aletheia). Aletheia needs no abstract metaphysical categories, it is a concept of truth which is fundamentally oriented toward a being exploring an uncertain world.

So perhaps you don't need to find some fundamental spark of truth in the world outside of you.
