Seems progress is far from linear and we may "need" another really dark period to shock us once again. Too bad so few learn the lessons of history and we need to repeat them ad nauseum.

Newton's First Law: "An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion, unless acted upon by an outside force."

Seems, to me, that humans follow this Law as well! Society tends to remain headed in the same direction until an outside force becomes strong enough to push it onto a new path.

Peak-oil will be that push. The peak-oil model has predicted with reasonable accuracy of our current oil prices, and has predicted that they will continue to increase. This is very interesting news, and I think its important to be aware of it.

Hopefully, I'll have a safe haven in Colorado if this really does occur. But, who knows maybe we'll be able to harness Zero-Point energy or extremely efficient motor technology.

I came in at the demise of the hippie era. I was in high school. We imitated how the hippies dressed. We "believed" in flower power, even though we didn't know what it meant, and we learned how to say "cool" and "bitchen".

One of the most stupid photos there is of me, that I have stowed away some where, is me wearing these really stupid-looking low-rider bell-bottom pants, with a short top. Blech.

And I did acid. Graph-paper acid, purple micro-dot, yellow something-or-another...they all had different names like that.

I remember my parents making fun of the hippies. I liked the way they looked, personally. I could just never pull off their dress code.

pinch the shirt in the center,
spin it up keeping the folds even (that's the trick to it),
tie it in wheel spoke fashion,
and dye it along the folds being sure to get well in the creases to leave as few undyed areas as possible.

yeah fair enough, plus some would say that the 60s-70s were just fucking spiritual to the core, the music, the drugs, and everything else.

Plus i do think certain topics not specifically S&P must stay (now that i think about it) simply because if you posted them in OTD or something youd get the thread fucked up with crazy bullshit responses.

Look up your insecurities and deal with them. Its all about insecurities and fear. So you tried to know EVERYTHING right, then you conviened that you know everything and there is nothing left to fear.

Dont you understand that life is supposed to be mysterious! You can not and were not supposed to be able to gather information which would enable you to know and control everything.

So you spend your time rejecting the existance of everything which you can not reach.

You fear that if its really true that means im missing out on it big time. So i'll call it a hoax. And brush my insecurities under the carpet.

If aliens really exist why cant they show themselves? Why cant they come to Swamis apartments so that Swami could cut them with his scalpel to see if its really an alien or Shroomism wearing a rubber mask.

People cannot show anything that THEY CLAIM simply because there is nothing to show. My history does not factor into the equation.

I watched "Proof Positive" last night in which an alien abductee claimed he had proof which was examined using the latest equipment and by PhD chemists. The "evidence" turned out to be ordinary materials. Of course, the claimant made the usual excuses.

Guess they should have examined the neutral chemists' childhood instead of the substance presented. "Well you found common fluorescent paint instead of alien blood because you were beat up on the school ground in third grade..."  :rolleyes:

i'm curious to know if you think that the 60's demonstrate no amount of personal peace and love will change things without the equal component of... control/proper direction/something to that effect.

all these peace and lovenicks kind of make me sick, because the real issue seems to be self control and self awareness, afterwhich love vs. hate seems kind like a moot point.

It mostly ACTUAL reporting, unlike todays 24 hour editorializing disguised as news, but is merely agenda-pushing. The most famous of all was/is Walter Cronkite, called the "most trusted man in America". On the air, he rarely/never let his personal bias show and told exactly what was going on without running it through his personal filter. He was the consumate professional, NOT an entertainer.

A hippy was not a club or group (such as The Black Panthers), but a generalization given by the mainstream towards the youth that looked or acted quite differently from the previous generation. So in essence, one did not "become" a hippy, one was labeled a hippy - quite a distinction. What were the criterion? That depended upon the one doing the labeling.

BTW, I am not being vague or evasive. This may seem contrary to the title of this post. As a pot-smoking, long-hair who lived in a bus, I truly did not consider myself a hippy, but heard that term applied to me countless times. On the flip-side, when I was in the military, I was called a conservative hawk and part of the war machine.

Both labels are attempts to pidgeon-hole and do not describe the person.

When I was in the Army I had some middle age aging-hippy looking woman, on a public bus in Honolulu, ask me if I liked being a baby killer(1981). I thought about explaining how I felt patriotic and all of that and how I did not truly want to kill anyone.....then I realized she would not listen so I gave her what she wanted. I said "Yes, there is nothing finer than killing babies, thank you." She just shut up and looked out the window...

Winning one tournament does NOT make one a professional poker player. A "true" poker player, contrary to popular opinion, is NOT a gambler. He wants to ALWAYS have the edge or the correct drawing odds when playing.

The newer generation who have watched the ESPN coverage, get a thrill when going "ALL-IN". With thousands of entrants playing erratically, even the pros stand little chance of winning as the tournament has become more and more of a lottery.

I prefer pot limit or limit games to no-limit as the more skillful player(s) will usually win. For tournaments, I play single table, highly complex games on-line such as Omaha Hi-Lo and Seven Stud Hi-Lo where I am a consistent winner (about 60% where the chance of winning is about 30% - they pay the top 3 finishers in a table of 8 or 10) The intracacies of these games require true skill and not BS luck.
