because i am not educated, swami or spud, could you please explain psychological egoism?

sure
psychological egoism is a theory of human nature that seeks to identify the genral or essential nature of humanity. it asserts that, by nature, human begins are self-interested or selfish. that is, the nature of humans is that their every action or motive is selfish.
i was assuming you ment morals are a downfall in general, not to yourself

It seems as though all things that come my way arent worth emotionally responding to. Satisfaction and desire have completely vanished, and its discomforting at my age level because that is how my peers interact. By transcending the ego you effectively alienate yourself with most people. (I sent you a PM, Swami).

I am surprised

Different tactics and / or personas are required in different situations, no?

I was thinking about this very thought.

to accurately observe human behaviour, it would take an observer who was not human

that is the difference besides precision and truth
if i may quote aristotle: "it would be as wrong to expect the same degree of accuracy in all reasonings as in all manufactured items. things noble and just, which are subjects of investigation in political science, exhibit so great diversity and uncertainty that they are sometimes thought to have only a conventional, and not a natural, existence."
he goes on to say "for an educated person will expect accuracy in each subject only so far as the nature of the subject allows; he might as well accept probable reasoning from a mathematician as require demonstrative proofs from a rhetorician..."

Not at all. Does an emotional spouse-beater ingratiate himself with people more than a balanced and content human being?

However, seeing through the games of others, you may no longer choose to play meaningless, robotic roles.

Footnote: I ordered a racquet three weeks ago and was promised a quick delivery. It still hasn't arrived. Years ago I would have gotten angry and barked at the customer service rep to show my displeasure. On the phone I was pleasant and conversational, while being firm about the company's commitment.

The rep is sending an extra set of strings and a glove at no charge (about $15 worth of stuff on a $75 order). Would he have done the same to please me if I had blasted him though it was not his fault?

meaningless robotic roles...

not playing them can still lead to alienation from peers.

you could orchestrate them, but them would assuage ego into your being again.

Maybe being 'peer' to those people becomes a robotic role...

It's a fallacy to think that people should be "friends forever" when clearly both people will change over time. It's possible but it should never be expected or forced

you have become quite conniving about being self serving as a smart shopper - a true model of consumerism.
I would certainly take refuge in the kindness of you words and heap you with plenty of string - given the right opportunity.

And yes different personality masks arise naturally, even if you want to call it skill. No harm taking pride in it.

now swami, are you intentionally trying to push buttons, or are they pushing their own?

can we not choose how we react?

also, what's the deal with people trying to "transcend" the ego on mushrooms, as if this is inherent within the mushroom trip.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Re: Transcending Ego [Re: Swami]

The constant thread of conversation regarding transending ego is somewhat silly in my opinion. How about healing, and developing a healthy and non-invasive ego to begin with. Learning how to really love yourself, understand and recognize boundaries in yourself and in others (then respect them...) this kind of stuff comes way before transendance and is, in reality, probably more important that some abstract concept that we don't really understand until perhaps it happens to us.

Ego has got to be healthy and well adjusted before it can be let go of or else theres way too much potential for self destructive illusion.
