Amanita Muscaria locality question for Tampa area
    #3229234 - 10/07/04 07:06 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Just wondering if anyone out there has found any Amanita Muscaria (or closely related, panther, formosa,...) in Florida anywhere south of Pensacola (they have been found there-word of mouth). I am doing research on this species. Thanks

If you're really that desperate, look around pine trees.

Why not just pick cubes? You'd have a much better time.

I agree. Aminitas are great for photos but not something that I would ever want to consider eating.

I think most people are under the assumption that the only thing mushrooms are worth are for eating and tripping. On the contrary, I would almost rather learn about the earth's ecology and stop dancing around (tripping) so that I can become a better person. Amanita Muscaria is a wonderful mushroom I believe. God Bless You.

cosmicsea, I agree with you. I am the exact opposite of people who just look for mushrooms to trip. I have always been interested in nature, biology and wild mushrooms. For years, I have collected and photographed mushrooms. I enjoy it as a hobby, pastime, and challenge. None of my posts have anything requesting info on active mushrooms.

eris,

Good for you, man! I also enjoy anthropology (evolution of mankind and mushrooms) the domains of medicine, nature has been my biggest kick in life so far. Nature and biology and even art and music go together very well. The greatest of all art works is found in nature and science is the result of nature. So beyond just going out to search for another dose (nothing wrong with that) it's also great time to do research and to discover new ideas.

But in contrast to what you have said, I have definitely posted a few questions about actives--- being a floridian there are a ton of questions to ask!! Stamets's book really opened my mind up this summer to the things that have been done with psilocybin research the past 20+ years. Have a nice night

You're getting me all wrong. I'm not in the hobby just for the trip. I love mushrooms of all kinds(see my chantrelle and morel posts). I'm just saying that if you're looking for a high from a mushroom, why bother with A. muscaria after all the bad reports?

Same here, I would probably never consume one... but I'm somewhat anxious for my first finding of A.M.

We have tons of Cokers, Grissets, False Caesars, Destroying Angels, etc... but the elusive A.M. I've yet to find here in AL.

Mycology is frustrating fun

My area is head high in amanitas right now. They are one of my favorites to photograph!
