All Amanita species have white spores! If you THINK YOU MAY HAVE FOUND an Amanita muscaria, you HAVE FOUND an Amanita muscaria!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are NO look-alikes for this mushroom! The Cap is bright red with white flakes on it. If it doesn't have flakes, don't pick it! The stem is white with a partial veil under the cap. The bottom of the stem is a round, bulbous shape. Yes, they do grow in BC, as well as almost every other state in the US! Another entheogenic Amanita that is very common in BC is Amanita pantherina, which is basically the same shape and content, but the ranges from a caramel-brown to dark-brown color with white flakes and white stem with a partial veil and round, bulbous shaped bottom. Be careful with Amanita pantherina, because it is suspected to have a higher amount of toxins as well as some other chemicals that A. muscaria does not have. Also, be careful with A. muscaria, because other than Ibotenic acid and Muscimol(psychoactive chemicals that can be toxic in high quantities), it alos contains Muscarine. A. muscaria and A. pantherina only contain small amounts of Muscarine, but the chemical can cause severe vomitting and severe diarrhea and can even prove to be fatal, even in somewhat small quantities! OK, you asked a simple question, "What is the spore color for Amanita muscaria?". Well, seeing as no one answered right off with a simple answer, you posted an angry post because of this! I don't see why, as it would be just as easy for you to do alittle searching, as someone else would've had to take their own time to answer this question that you could've answered yourself in less time! You see, the first impression is the most important! I see that you're very impatient! There are many, many sites that'll give you almost any answer to almost any question you have about this mushroom. A. muscaria is in almost every single mushroom guide in almost every library on earth! Also, it isn't too hard to type "Amanita muscaria" into your search engine, man! Erowid.org is a good place to learn, as well as Mushroom John's Shroom World! If you're really into learning about mushrooms, then stick around this board and you will! If you're just into finding out if you found A. muscaria, then I answered your question. Although, A. muscaria aka Fly Agaric, is not a mushroom that's gonna do much for you, period! You'd be surprised at the number of Psilocybian species that grow within a few yards of where you may have found your happy little Super Mario Bros. mushroom! If you've got any more questions about mushrooms, then feel free to ask and I, for one, will answer them to the best of my knowledge! There are some really cool, experienced hunters on this board and I hope you have a chance to meet them all. Until then, don't be so impatient and Stay cool!-Levi7.

I have yet to experience that thing that the Fly Agaric produces, as I've never found an Amanita muscaria var. muscaria ever in my life! Hehe! Although, I did munch an Amanita pantherina and noticed little to nothing from it! Like I've stated, this mushroom is reported to contain larger amounts of Ibotenic acid and Muscimol than Amanita muscaria. I've also read many books that consider this mushroom to be a deadly one! At least one book I've come across states that the Panther contains yet another chemical called Pantherine. I don't know if that true, but still........ Anyway, If I ever do come across a beautiful patch of the scarlet-colored Amanita muscarias, I will in fact try them! More than likely, I will thoroughly be guided by the vaults of Erowid, in every detail of my concoction! Who knows? It might be neat. Some say that it depends on the person. So being a person, it might depend in the right way, you know?!!! hehe! Stay cool!-Levi7.

They are amanita muscaria too. There is Amanita muscaria var. Muscaria, and Amanita muscaria var. formosa. They are pretty much the same thing, but formosa's are yellowish If I remember correctly.

Can't say from personal experience--I've only tried the red ones--but MANY people report that the yellow variety is more nauseating than the red. There are also supposed differences between the subarctic strains which grow with Birch and the temperate zone strains which grow with Pine. The former are allegedly more "mystical." The latter (Oregon) variety which I've tried produce euphoria followed by alcohol-like loss of muscular coordination followed by stupor followed by deep sleep with vivid dreams. If you sleep at least 12 hours you wake up feeling fresh & energized, with no nasty hangover. I've seen a few people get really delerious/ delusional on larger doses than I cared to sample, but they were fine after they slept it off. Preparation is important--HEAT activates the intoxicating compounds & reduces the sickening ones. This means cook the fresh specimens, or boil the dried ones to make tea. Potency can vary tremendously from one collection to another, so the safe bet is to start low (5 g dry, 2 oz fresh) & work up 'til you get results. Then decide if you like it or not. (Some people--myself included--enjoy the very lowest noticeable doses as a warming, invigorating winter tonic. At this level there is no intoxication, but it feels really good doing physical labor--like splitting logs--outdoors in cold weather).

Though my last post was made upon assumption and no actual experience or knowledge, the nausea, trip, and all effects vary greatly even between trips on the same batch of the toadstools. One trip can bring heaven, while the next brings hell. Given that, I would not be surprised if "more" people note a higher degree of nausea with formosa than they do with muscaria (of the people who have tried both). However; you must reallize that it is unlikely that the people who have experienced a higher degree of nausea while using var. muscaria even reported it.

I have found a lot of Amanitas this year. I heard that only the caps are active. Is this true? Thanks.

The active chemicals are "allegedly" most concentrated in the tinted flesh just under the cap cuticle. They occur in lesser concentrations throughout the mushroom. But the flavor is equally distributed through cap & stem. I personally enjoy the strong mushroom flavor of A. muscaria & like to pick it in the golfball-sized button stage before it gets full of bugs. I like to cook up 1-3 buttons (stem & all) in a Denver omelet with onions, peppers, ham & cheese, top w/ sour cream & salsa & enjoy. One A. muscaria button thus ingested is perfect for breakfast before a day of outdoor labor in cold weather. 3 or more means "Bedtime for Bonzo"--too stoned to function!
