It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?

i was thinking of adding that to my post. but thats the same as kratom and (in my experience) salvia and other enthogens. no body seems to buy these exotic drugs off dealers, online yeah, but not off dealers.
most people just dont know about them. like i only know of one person not online who knows what DMT is.

just hold your breath and spin in circles for 3 minutes, the effects will be similar, without the possibility of a liver transplant.

the rings in these specimens have been overhandled or in some other way depressed but are still clearly present. i can not speak for all specimens pictured. in some cases they can erode or be handled to the point of becomming indistinct, bulbous or give the appearance of being simply rimmed, which features make positive placement all the more dificult and all the less certain. this is one reason that extreme caution with amanitas is advisable, as these features are of primary importance once the identity as an amanita has been established. another reason worth never forgetting for a second is that in north america amanitas have not been as extensively cataloged, sorted and published as elsewhere [e.g. europe].

Alright so I see no need for another A. Muscaria thread
I found these growing in my backyard. I don't know for sure, but they appear to be A. Muscaria.
*edit* i'm just not sure about the rings around the base. for the record, i'm not eating them. Just curious

Strange that there would be so many A. muscaria id requests at once in the same thread.
Why ask questions if you don't listen to the answers?

Well a. muscaria are pretty self identifying in most parts of the world.
ring on stem, vovla (egg) at base, red/yellow with 'warts' of white on cap. Grows under elm/birch. They also have a distinctive smell.
(BTW, this is true for me cos i live in UK, im not so sure about america)

Edited after Cactu corrected my mistake Amanita muscaria's volva, forms collars at the base of the stem, the base of the stem is bulbous.
In America they are most often found under pines and other evergreens and sometimes found under some deciduous trees such as oak and birch.

Amanita muscaria does not have a volva, it has veil remnants that form collars at the base of the stem, the base of the stem is bulbous.

. all amanitas have the main caracteristic of having a volva, all of then , the tipe of volva of amanita muscaria is just diferent that other, some loose it with age but no a. muscaria.

You are correct, my mistake, I should have been clearer and said that Amanita muscaria does not have a sac like volva. Nice pictorial representation of the different bases of amanitas BTW.

the bulbous part at the base and the concentric rings of scales are wot remains of the volva...

yeah yeah, sorry my mistake, just the way I think of it, all amanitas have a universal veil, I usually only say that the ones whose universal veil form sac like volvas have volvas.
