Actually, there are a couple species of Amanita that I think could be easily mistaken for Amanita muscaria var. formosa (or the Yellow Fly Agaric.)
One is called the Yellow Blusher, or Amanita flavorubescens, which is poisonous. It can be distinguished from the Yellow Fly Agaric by the fact that all parts of it stain pink when cut or bruised.
Another poisonous look-a-like, the Yellow Wart, or Amanita flavoconia grows east of the Great Lakes and looks very similar to the Yellow Fly Agaric except it is usually smaller in size.
The main way to make certain you have Amanita muscaria var. formosa is that the volva tissue will form "bracelets," or rings around the base of the stem.
Be careful when eating Amanitas!!!
Peace,
RebelSteve

For the pale capped varieties of Amanita muscaria (basically, all of them except the red ones), there are several lookalikes. The problem with the term "lookalike" is that what you think looks just like them might look like obviously different species to an expert mycologist. Considering that Rod Tulloss (the guy currently working on a monograph on Amanita) has come up with over 100 new species of Amanita from just the northeastern US, and the edibility/toxicity of probably all of them is unknown, you should be very sure that what you've got are Amanita muscaria before you eat them. You are aware, I hope, that the majority of fatalities from mushrooms are due to Amanitas?
If you can post some photos (be sure to include the stem, including the base) of your specimens, we can try to reduce the uncertainty a bit.
Happy mushrooming!

The spore prints of poisonous Amanitas are white as well. Like I said before, I think the appearance of the volva is the best way to be certain what species you have.

Dude, have you ever heard of the search feature??? Try using it sometime!
Effed made a post not too long ago with some nice pics of Amanita muscaria var. formosa.
Since I'm a nice guy, here is the link to the thread. The "bracelets" that the volva forms are clearly visible on the younger specimen in his pics.
Peace,
RebelSteve

Hey shroomben...
Sorry, but I do not have enough expertise in this area to give a definite yes or no based on those pictures. The first pic makes me think it might be, but I do not want to say yes for sure and have you get yourself killed.
Also, I'm not sure how much it takes for one to feel any effects from Amanitas. It's been a while since I researched this area. The Shroomery has a good section on Amanita info on the main site, though. You might want to look around there.
Maybe someone else here can say for sure what you've got from those pictures. I don't feel comfortable enough to do so, though. Sorry!
Peace,
RebelSteve
