to be fair i never said anything negative about the freemasons in my post (other than that my initial impression was that they just wanted to feel important) all i said was that they are in fact powerfull by dint of loyalty and numbers. I never said weather they use that power for good or ill, nor do i know.

by "privileged" i meant exposed to the "secret" masonic knowledge, whatever it may be. it may not even be any big secret, but the fact that it's a "secret society" creates a feeling of privilege if you think you're in on the so-called secret.

Good point, except that the Skull & Bones, the Jolly Roger IS a Masonic symbol that hearkens back (supposedly) to the Knights Templar. The head of the Templars was Jacques de Molay, and there is a Masonic de Molay group for kids. My Father took me to his lodge when I was about 7 years old and I remember some16 mm film with these older boys wearing scarlet coats and sashes. I wasn't interested then or later, but I did get into Ceremonial Magick at age 18 and became interested in occult lodges (Crowley's A.A., O.T.O., etc. Crowley is pictured in full Masonic regalia).

The " "secret" masonic knowledge" is available in written form in any good book store or library. The secrecy is just a formality as nearly all of their ritual is publicly available for those who care to search. Most of these guys are not even aware of it's connection to The Knights Templar or The Order of the Teutonic Knights...my father in law is an Officer in this organization and was surprised to hear (from me) that some of their ritual was based in ancient magical tradition as he is a hard corps Christian. Some of this nonsense here sound like something from "Focault's Pendulum" by Umberto Ecco.

what makes you think that you know anything about "secret masonic knowlege"? what makes you think that any masons you know or youre related to know anything about "secret masonic knowledge"? what makes you think that any of these 'masons' that tote the seal and go about these stupid meetings know anything about the "secret masonic knowledge"?

The best way to keep a secret is to make people think they know the real secret when you just tell them some bullshit and keep them busy and distracted.

You think the heads of the freemasons really let their secrets trickle down to every lodge in every city? there are thousands and thousands of these fucks, so their secrets will eventually get out to any random bum on the street. You know masons. You talk about it freely to us. Surely this would be anticipated.

Freemasons are old school. Most of the signers of the declaration of independance were freemasons.

You said it yourself. Most of these freemasons dont even know their roots. Im sure you will just dismiss what Im saying, cause Im basically saying that your father is just a pawn. he doesnt know about the Knights of Columbus. the Knights Templar. the Knights of Malta. The Rosecrusians. The Golden Dawn. These guilds were once very sacred. They werent something that you proudly show off.

Once again, the best way to keep a real secret is to shroud it in the midst of faulty knowledge.

ahhh, the masonic lodges...
well, there was actually an "anti-masonic" political party in the usa in the 1800s...
(there may have been a couple posts here about the masons a couple years ago...)
it is certain that much of the masonic rituals & lodge set-up as practiced in europe (& subsequently in the new world & elsewhere) was taken directly from the various sufi lodges which entered into europe along with the muslim waves of invasion that crested in the north of europe at the battle of tours (though muslim influences were felt throughout europe for the next few centuries; & in the iberian peninsula, much of what is now spain & portugal was a muslim caliphate for several hundred years (until 1492, pretty much...)
anyways, in masonic lodges (like "al quran mosque" - a lot of eastern/muslim influences right out in the open, eh?) --- "the book of the land" (doesn't have to be the christian bible, ok?)is on an altar; to be initiated as a brother, the applicant must profess belief in "one supreme being" (note: not neccessarily the nominal "god the father" of the christian trinity; etc.)
there have been struggles between the catholic church and the masonic orders; and railings against masonic stuff from within some protestant christian churches (even while protestant christians make up the vast majority of mason in the usa... sometimes the objections are against "beliving christians" being "yoked together unequally with non-believers" - altho' this objection could even more easily be used to stop some protestant youth from joining the boy scouts or girl scouts...)
as to "meeting on the square & parting on the level" --- well, you are supposed to be extra careful to do a righteous deal for a brother mason, & always be willing to lend a helping hand to "the widow's son"...
secret handshakes & robes & solemn oaths & passwords & tyled doors... sorta spooks some folks out, hehheh...
and that thing about belief in "a supreme being" --- well, if you wanted to get technical, it would be possible to have in existence "luciferian lodges" (tho' not bloody likely in 21st century america, heh; even working esoteic lodges (or folks doing their own esoteric works within existing contemporary masonic lodges) are probably pretty dam' rare...)
& as for "masonic secrets" ---> quoth harry s truman: "i'm a thirty-third degree mason, and i don't know any damned secrets!"

revolt in 2100 / r a heinlein
the man who would be king / rudyard kipling
---> the kipling story was made into a stunning movie (starring sean connery & michael caine); & may have been based on an actual occurence (in central africa & not "kaffifistan") from the wild career of 19th century british explorer sir richard burton(who translated erotic verse into english, explored africa, & entered into mecca, etc, etc); he was already well initiated into many european masonic lodges, & when taken captive by some african locals who had never seen a white euro & were about to kill him, burton noticed that in the village square was a building with a masonic (actually a sufi lodge) emblem; he slipped 'em the ol' secret handshake & was suddenly welcomed as a brother...

the masonic lodges are BS

the real masonic order is all about genetics. Its about intrinsic knowledge.

there are very few real masons in the world. the others are just imitations. Dont hold their actions against the real ones.

My grandfather was a freemason. A lot of what you hear about the freemasons is just hearsay and rumor. This is probably because they're so secretive about their organization, which makes a lot of people suspicious.

every secret society tends to spawn a whole slew of imitators, claiming to be the real thing. Most of the time, the original organization allows this to happen, because it further clouds their agenda in the minds of the general population. Unfortunately, this can also ruin the reputation of the original organization. But most secret societies care little about reputation.

real masons are good people. its the imitations you have to worry about.

Um I kinda skimmed through these post but I'd thought I'd add I come from a long line of Masons and have been planing to join myself (you have to be asked or in my case have family in it) As far as what they do well it's kinda like a club a really close nit club you go you talk about about things (the world,politics,ect,ect) but your not allowed to fight only dissagree (kinda like here we disagree but we don't Flame or get nasty about someone who thinks differently) And lastly you help out other members if you can. Like you would help out a brother or sister if they came and asked for help (there is a separate org. for the Women and anther for Kids) It's not religiose all thought the rituals are spiritual in nature. And all sorts of religions are in the Masons it's just not something you talk about.

I fully agree. And that goes for all human beings but I have to say that sometimes, the people who do all that fund raising and stuff like that which you mentioned may also do the killing. Take for example the well known Nestle. They make baby food in one factory and grenades and guns in the other. They have actually got the point. Raise 'em, kill 'em, raise 'em again and so on...
