Starting to get some germination on the TTBVI spores. What is it looking like?

Swab plate

Scraped spores into plate (you can see the group of spores in the middle of each growth)
I know you can’t see much in this one. Once I open it to transfer I will get better pictures.

WA plates looking real good, but much much slower.

Hello fellow pan heads.
I had an account here years ago but can’t access it so i have started another after recently getting back into the hobby. I’ve never grown pans before but have wanted to for a long time and thanks to this awesome thread (I’m up to page 1500) I have just harvested my first flush of ttbvi grown in a JCM fc. I was fairly confident i could pull off a decent enough first attempt but i didn’t expect such a prolific first flush so thank you to everyone who has shared their methods which have helped me have success.

Thank you good people. I enjoyed the hell out of this grow and will be spawning more jars next week to see if i can pull off something similar.

Hello guys, just a question, i have these 2 LC jars, about 2 months old, sitting in a cool dark closet, i want to inoculate some grain but 1 of the jars seems weird. i have forgotten about them for a couple of weeks because i have been really busy and didnt agitate (swirl) them. one of the jars have myceluim on top with some dark growth on them... is it contam or just mycelium bruising from drifting on top?

if it is contam does this jar look healthy?

The only reliable way to tell if a liquid culture is healthy is to test it on agar.

That is an awesome grow!

Mind to share what substrate you were using

Thanks Baba. The substrate was 50% straw, 40% horse manure which was a mix of aged and semi composted, and 10% vermiculite. Also added a quarter cup of gypsum and fulvic acid to the water before hydration. Substrate depth was 1.5”.

Pasteurization time! Will do a sous vide water bath

Each bag will be a tray. 2/3 coir/verm  1/3 composted sheep manure.

Then tomorrow i will cut open each bag and throw in a jar of grain spawn and shake the bag hard to mix it all over the substrate. That way its wayyy faster and easier than adding the substrate in the trays and then adding the spawn and trying to mix it and make a big mess with substrate going everywhere.

After that I just dump the bag in a tray and level it a bit with a wooden spoon and thats it

Btw do you think its really necessary to sift composted manure to remove clumps/stones/sticks? I did it but I really hate doing it it takes a long time im lazy.

How do you guys do it so its faster? What kind of sifting accessory would be best. Mine is a plastic one that isnt so big and the fact that the manure is near field capacity allready from the bag makes it even harder for them to go through the holes so its a huge pain to do.

I have a garden sieve with swappable screens. The biggest mesh has got about 1” grid and the smallest about 1/8”.

I got it for worm castings which have a similar issue when they’re at field capacity.

I had a spare jar of ttbvi spawn so decided to spawn it to a 16 litre monotub after reading Baba’s thread and seeing how it could work in a simple set up. Substrate is 50% straw, 40% composted horse manure, and 10% vermiculite. I also added a quarter cup of gypsum and fulvic acid at a rate of 5ml per litre to the water before hydrating the sub which was then pasteurized at 160f for six hours using a sous vide. The substrate was then left to sit for four days to allow the beneficial bacteria to multiply. It definitely smelled pretty ripe when it was opened up but the smell was gone within a day of spawning, and after five days the mycelium is well on the way to fully colonizing it.

Should be ready to case by this time next week.

Cool little side by side.

On the left we have a purchased plate with an u known nutrient content. On the right is a 0.5 nutrient content poured myself.

The original source was a clone on water agar. From the water agar straight to the high nute plate into a cabin. The plate on the right is a T2. Water agar to low nute, to low nute again. No trench no cabin.

Build a 2 foot square frame from 2x2s and then tack 1/2 inch hardware cloth to it. Easy peasy

Got some pins popping outside here in the south of Spain. I put some pasteurized sub and a jar of bvi spawn into a little planter and cased it once the surface was colonized, and threw some dry straw on top of that to hold the humidity in. I was doubtful it would do anything as temperatures are dropping here but saw some pins a couple of days ago and more are showing today. Daytime high is 75f and the low is 58f. Humidity is up in the 90’s at night, and in the mid 50’s during the day.

Is there a thread on Norns here?

Getting ready to put to sub in the next couple of weeks

Pan Cyan var Eungai Black x Pan Cambo var Komodo

Also curious if morphology is wildly different.

In general, I've always heard wispy myc for Pans was the best, but some of my cultures have grown some rather thicc structures.

My Bisporus has remained wispy in same hybrid spawn blend in bags but Norns & Eungai have definitely changed after bulking

Thx 🙏

Wispy myc was a personal preference that somehow became a rule, I think. Probably doesn't apply 100% across the board.
Same with "fast myc".

I found Komodo really wanted to go kind of marshmallowy when I grew it. Eungai was more whispy. I could see a cross attempting either growth pattern. My suggestion would be try to isolate both and see how they deliver. New cultures are always a numbers games for me anyway
