Whats purple gel? I used purple dye once and all the culture on it just died because it had red#5 dye which is anti fungal by nature

I just did some research on the food dye, everything seems to be metabolized except one ingredient jumped out at me

Potassium Sorbate, I know Tha from brewing and kills yeast. My transfers are puffed up nicely but swab plates are bare after 13 days.  Seems it can inhibit germination of all sorts of things.. Perhaps useful

Got some awesome grain spawn of ttbvi going! It will be my 2nd successful pans grow, hopefully.

This is 10 days in. I just shook them now. The colonies were huge!

All made from that nice plate

The fruit from the 2nd flush of this chloro grow have quadrupled in size compared to the first flush. They’re also holding their cap colour much longer.

Pan project got it's first fruit. It's not a giant flush, but I am seeing some cap development. Not sure if there is enough fae to get a print, but I took a clone from one of the clusters. Hopefully moving away from MS genetics will improve things next time.

I have some Komodo spawn growing right now, and some nice Bisporus on agar. Really looking forward to how the bispo likes this setup since they need less fae than other species.

I have had to mist the casing a couple times, but I'm going to try a lid with 5mm holes over top of the Tupperware and a grass casing to reduce that during pin formation.

Set and forget pans

Gonna need a bunch more info.  What’s the set up… temps, how’re they getting fae and how often, etc?  Do you have pics of the plates before you sent them to grain?

Healthy cultures can exhibit surface growth you’re experiencing under non-ideal conditions but it could also stem back to plate work.

How long have they been in fruiting conditions?  Really any extra info is helpful to diagnose what’s going on.  No one is going to be able to give you any accurate answers based solely on two pics without details.. at least they shouldn’t

^^^^^ what they said

Also: what type of pan, how was the spawn prepped and inoculated, spawn to substrate ratio, type of substrate and how it was pasteurized.

Please include also a photo of the side or underside of the tubs showing the colonized substrate.

temps about 25 degrees Celsius, small fan blowing indirect wind against wall, inoculated with liquid culture
5 days into fruiting

only have a pic of the grain jars before it was fully colonized but all of them looked fully colonized before spawning to bulk sub

For those that are attempting pans, I recommend you create a journal to keep track of what you're doing.

Try to write down as many details as you can

If you want an example, check out my journal that I linked above.

LC, ok, have you made it yourself? Got photos of the plates if yes?

Are they in a fruiting chamber? I'm asking because I see a temperature probe in the second photo.

Or are they unmodified tubs? If yes, how big are they and how much gap is between the lid and tubs and what is the probe for?

There are some big water beads on the surface and the casing appears to be wet making me think this needs more air.

Also please answer previous questions.

This is very dense growth.

Thanks for saying that Baba Yaga. As I recently put a small test wedge of ttbvi on a myco litre of grains, and mine look nothing like these. So I was freaking out a bit if I’ve strayed totally of course.

Even if I’m not absolutely sure of my culture, the general difference freaked me out a bit.

I’ll add pictures of mine, when I’m a bit more sober (:

Edit. Just realized I attributed too much meaning to your post. As I don’t actually know if β€œvery dense” is good or bad.

TBH, I was waiting for someone to comment on this since it would strikes me as abnormal if it was any pan I have had cultivated before but I never grew
TTBVI which seems to have a tendency to produce thick growth and a grain small and densely packing as millet (which I also never used) might even
amplify that so I didn't want to cry wolf without having firsthand experience with either and I'm curious to know what others think.

Edit:

I found a quote by tree frog

tree frog said:
The pictured jar was TTBVI.  That sort of dense marshmallow growth is pretty typical from it.  Unfortunately, it's also typical for bacterial jars.

So its probably all sweet and dandy.
