Hard to tell at at that resolution. Is that non-white color on the surface blueing? Vermiculite or something? I'm assuming it's not green contam for now.

They might benefit from some micro droplets on the surface, but it doesn't look dire.

even after misting twice (Friday and now) I don't really see any surface droplets? Could it be the substrate being too dry? Overall humidity in the bag seems fine..

Keep the damp but not overly damp, the water from the dunk is more than enough for your first flush...keep them at 23 C or room teperature.

Hey try slightly rotating the bottle a little bit in between the pours. Then it's coming out a new area of the spout. That's what I'll do. I'll probably rotate that bottle like 10 times during a pour ๐Ÿ˜‚ it helps tho!

supreme kit so no dunk..in transport for like 16 days as well, so moisture loss isn't that unlikely...think they should be fine now, leaving them till Wednesday at least :smile:

I pressure cooked 7 jars last night. Unmodded flipped metal lids with foil on top.

I opened the canner after it had released pressure, and over a few hrs had the lids alternating between tight and loose as I broke up the grain. (Less labour intensive if done while hot). Probably 3 or so breaking sessions total, so a fair bit of fiddling with the lid to get it between tight and loose when I was handling the jars.

They then sat on my bench with lids loose for 24hrs before I tightened them tonight.  (Foil on entire time).

What are the odds they are contaminated due to lids being loose?

I mean. You have to loosen them for gas exchange post inoculation, so what I did can't be that bad.. right?


If I wanted to be safe I could wait a few extra days to check for contam? How many days would be safe?

Even if the metal ring was loose, tha lids still sitting flush on the top of the jar with a layer of foil covering it. That being said, there's not a very high chance of them being contaminated from that:mushroom2:

Agar and grain are cheap, I'd inoculate them and move on to the next project:rockon::mushroom2:

Yeah the odds that something got up into the foil hat and then down past the lid are slim, I use unmodified 1 piece lids for everything, just crack em loose for ge

Hello friends, I noticed that a fully colonized ATL #7 quart jar has two rye berries that are turning green and powdery. I'm sure the contaminate is trichoderma, I have kind of become and expert on that one in the last few months :kittylaugh:. There are at least two visible but small sclerotia, so I want to make an effort to save this.


I was hoping to grow sclerotia, but now think my better option is to attempt eradication, then send that to monotub with sterilized substrate.

What are my best options?

put a small piece of stone to agar.

if the jar has visible mold spawning to a tub is only going to grow more mold.

you could top fruit your jar and get some fruits and also clone those or get more spores.

all kinds of fun stuff but spawning would be last thing and done for a goof if attempted.
