Found this thread https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231313#17231313

Looks like the example at:

Quote:
Cubensis mycelium, meeting with the mycelium of a contaminant mushroom mycelium, this is a tricky one. Cubensis is more silky, and always flows, notice how the contaminant mushroom mycelium does not flow, and looks similar to cobweb mold

Steaming is fine for the pf tek , with bacteria in your pf jars that's usually an inoculant issue

Do any of y'all fruit at lower temps? I'm thinking about starting up again, but the room they will be fruiting in will be low 60's (F) and night.

My take on it is that the steaming slows down, but necessarily doesnt KILL all bacterium inside the jar, giving the mycelium a headstart...correct me if I am wrong but some soil living bacterium may survive the steaming or am i dead wrong???

It usually take a long time for heat resistant bacteria to bounce back , but that's not coming from not prepping jars correctly.
Leave a control jar to eliminate that possibility

Oh God, here we go again... this brings back memories of the WhiteDemon thread.

I really appreciate it, guys, I truly do. Even though nobody actually answered my question.

Belintaf said:
If I'm only using steaming and don't normally wash my jars with bleach, is it possible that bacteria/endospores are building up on the inside glass over time?

Whatever. I'll soak the jars in 10% bleach for ~60 minutes. At least I'll learn something new.

Hugs

No, no. I'm just using a regular pot with steaming for my PF-Teks. That's why I'm asking.

For a while I had zero issues, then later on I'd get a tiny spot that the mycelium would eventually choke out. And now it's happening more and more often.

Plus, I noticed that when I bought 3 brand-new jars, those didn't have this issue at all. That's why I'm questioning it.

Gotcha.  I assumed. That’s why I didn’t mention a pressure canner. Still, bleach is not required. Treat them like any dish you would use for dinner. Soap and hot water. A dish washer if you own one.

Overall consensus is dish soap is more than enough.

With plastics, I would consider micro abbrasions as possible hiding spots.

Glass has less of an issue, and warm water and dish soap with scrubbing from a rough side of the sponge it should be fine.

For tubs, I have started doing a 70% alcohol spray down, and wipe with a clean paper towel, after they had been washed with dish soap and dried.

In the end, its usually the spawn.

For clarity: I did over 120 PF Tek runs and taught some people locally, bringing the total number to somewhere close to 160 successful cakes. Your contam rates will never be 0% with PF Tek, but it’s sub-10% if you’re doing everything correctly.

Never once did I do anything with my jars beside wash them in the dishwasher. Two of the people I taught used the steam sterilization method, and once they had the rest of the process square they also had no problems.

Thanks Kloakk, I appreciate it. I can make new pictures any time. Do you have tips how I can make better photos to get better feedback?

I'm out of jars, but it's the only spawn I have atm. There's more promising stuff on agar (T1 ochra, subtrop and bvi), that needs some time

What I meant was that if you let it grow out more it will probably be easier to take better pictures as well make it easier for us to get a better look. For good pictures you need good light, light on the jar and the camera lense on the opposite side :awesomenod:

I dont recall who originally asked the question but collecting condensation inside your cabin when using glass roofs.

The condensation finally consolidated and made a puddle. Im not too worried about it because I was trying to rescue an old ass plate/ practice doing CS'ing.

Anyone come across this with a good solution to prevent condensation on glass cabin roofs?
