Well I think for most people--and by that I mean people who have a more or less stable psychology--it has the exact effect intended.

The objective has always been and even split between corporate capital interest, and political abstraction; agitation, division, paranoia, mistrust. The old razzle-dazzle otherwise known as propaganda.

It works exactly as intended. But for people with mental health issues; PTSD, bipolar, autism etc, the effects are amplified. The last time I had a psychotic episode was--in retrospect--a direct result of a good old-fashioned doom scroll session.

people are just trying to have their morning coffee and have a decent conversation. I'm not sure what your angle is but I am certain it is malevolent somehow.

If you truly were trying to be a better person moving forward, denying who you were before is probably not the best way to start. If that actually was your prerogative, I know you are smart enough to realize how steep of an uphill battle that would be for you.

You would start by raising a white flag and making a public apology but that's not what you're doing.  I don't know what you are trying to do but I'm definitely going to make sure it isn't possible.

For me, the information overload triggers a very specific kind of distress. Between the drop in perceived well-being and the inability to think (mental block), I end up completely exhausted.

The same thing used to happen to me with TV commercials, the news, gatherings with overstimulated people, or my buddy high to the gills on amphetamines.

In a "natural" setting, it's very hard to encounter that level of stimulation.

I remember when my girlfriend and I did an ~800 km hike. After a week of walking through flat, desolate terrain with no real stimuli around, we reached a city. We went into a supermarket to buy food and completely froze in front of the shelves.

So many colors, reflections, letters, prices, so many options... we just stood there like two idiots staring at the shelves for like 10 minutes. In an act of pure emergency, we grabbed the first things within reach and got the hell out of there with a headache.

That really made us question a lot of things...
