Try to take a tiny piece of aerial mycelium without any agar attached at around 6 o'clock and do a cabin sequestering it is the best tool in cultivating sofar to get rid of bacteria and is fairly easy to do

You can also do a agar sandwitch which is using a agar roof instead of glass like they do in a cabin sequester

And another option is agar wedges new agar tek it's like a half pour leaving some plastic uncovered and put the mycelium there n force it to travel over "land" which some molds and bacteria have troubles achieving mycelium will climb walls and over plastic to reach nutrients in this case being the agar once it reaches agar and has enough growth that looks good transfer that to a new plate and examine it's growth in following days or weeks

Or you could do trenches though in my opinion the first 3 mentioned by me have higher success rates (again my opinion):rockon:

Repost from subtrop thread. Is this fked or is there a small chance it's just tomentose and funny due to sslc?

No ideas I haven't got semperviva to grains yet though many fungi can choose to be tomentose or rhizomorphic depending on what they trying to do

Rhizomorphic is normally if it trying to gather resources and tomentose is more like it's trying to transfer resources out slowly as it expands

Tomentose tends to consolidate as it goes and rhizomorphic consolidates after it's got threads through most of it (entirely opinion only backed by minor experience) could be wrong and probably am

I have a small cake of PE in a shoebox that I let get too dry. It's mostly colonized but has a small bare spot about the size of a finger in the middle. I caught it a week or so ago and started misting again but it didn't fully colonize and now I've got pins starting near the edge of the box. Should I syringe water onto the dryish spot still or just maintain humidity and yield what I can?

Thanks in advance for the help, couldn't have managed the last few grows without lurking around here.

My first shoebox attempt, melmac penis envy. I got some cobweb mold contam that I've treated with hydrogen peroxide at stage when it already developed about 5cm of aerial structures in the 2 blank visible regions and I've started treating it when on one part it started developing light gray spores. Since then I've increased air circulation and reduced the humidity and it's significantly subsided.

How should I proceed, should I even pursue further flushes and is this batch even usable? I'm worried that by misting it's going to bring the contam back since the coir isn't fully colonized in the affected surface areas.

Thank you guys in advance for any feedback, I'm still relatively new to this process and any info is greatly appreciated.

It's spreading fast... Same sslc on agar. So wispy it needs a backlight to see it grow at all. I'm 99% sure it's fked, but can I get a confirmation so I cut my losses?

I think the reason you're not getting an answer is because its really hard to be sure what's going on from your pictures. If you don't need the jar let it ride a little longer and take better pictures when it's easier to do so.

If you need the jar I would toss it, I don't like how it looks, but

Which is true

Thanks Kloakk, I appreciate it. I can make new pictures any time. Do you have tips how I can make better photos to get better feedback?

I'm out of jars, but it's the only spawn I have atm. There's more promising stuff on agar (T1 ochra, subtrop and bvi), that needs some time

Welcome to the Shroomery!:smile::mushroom2:

Best bet is to take that largest shroom to Agar and Clone it.

It's not worth trying to get future flushes from a contaminated substrate. Furthermore hydrogen peroxide doesn't do a whole lot to manage contamination. Once the substrate is compromised it will eventually succumb to the mold.

Thanks for sharing what youve got going on, I'm glad to see youve managed to get a new mushrooms despite the contamination :mushroom2:

If I'm only using steaming and don't normally wash my jars with bleach, is it possible that bacteria/endospores are building up on the inside glass over time?

Hugs

You don’t need to wash your jars with bleach. Treat it like any other dish; soap and hot water is fine. They’ll be sterilized when you sterilize your grains.

No, no. I'm just using a regular pot with steaming for my PF-Teks. That's why I'm asking.

For a while I had zero issues, then later on I'd get a tiny spot that the mycelium would eventually choke out. And now it's happening more and more often.

Plus, I noticed that when I bought 3 brand-new jars, those didn't have this issue at all. That's why I'm questioning it.
