I think Puff was recommending 50ml to play it safe. The whole goal is to reach field capacity without over shooting. It's far easier to add water than to remove water. If you over water you'll either have to add more coir or squeeze every handful you put in the tub in order to drain the water.

Pretty easy to add vermiculite though :strokebeard:

You can reuse a tub that had trich in it previously, just scrubbing it out good with soap and water has always worked for me. I understand wanting to make sure evil is really dead though, kinda like the double tap rule in zombie land:hehehe::mushroom2:

So 4.2x water as there is coir 😅

Chances are it will be dry. If you have an extra brick, make it at 4.2, then add 50ml at a time until you reach field capacity. Add that to how much water you originally put in and  divide by the weight of the brick to figure out the ratio for your brand.

I have to add at least liter if I do 4.2.

Ya I think im more of a ×4.35- 4.4ish

Add verm by the handful to bring back down if a little to wet.  But I always end to dry at 4.25

Ha watch, you'll end up with a canopy!

When you get some normal coir, the ratio of 1:4.25 is a general start point. Like Dug said, you have to check for field capacity, grab a handful and squeeze- a few drops to should come out.

You are right. A couple days later the proper coir arrived. I hydrated it and psuedo-pasturized it. I mixed the coir into the tub with the grain an bark. It is doing better than my pure coir shoebox from the same isolate. Its all pinned and knotted up.

I want to ask those who have grown Jack Frost before or if you know how they usually develop: in your experience, do they keep growing upwards once they break the veils and open the caps?

Mine just starting doing it, the biggest/earlier ones, and they look pretty short. Chunky fat steams, but quite short ones.

I am stoked with how things are going but just curious if they will keep pushing upwards while the caps twist and turn blue.

Thanks homies

You definitely have a short pheno there, it's never going to be long and stalky. Does JF continue growing after the veil breaks? Yes, most mushrooms do, some more some less. From my own experience with JF I'd say it's more on the right side, meaning, it keeps on growing more then average. But keep in mind, potency drops the longer you leave it growing. From published rs I've seen it go up to 50%, although not cubes but probably still applies:

These results describe the alkaloid concentration per unit of weight, so if a mushroom doubles in size in every next developmental stage, this means there is still a big increase in total alkaloids.

Cool, thanks guys, I think I will just let it ride because I want to see those blue gills, just for entertainment reasons.

What I have is insane size differences across the tub. Will be an interesting one to harvest efficiently. Will see how I do it.

Also, the center of the tub never really colonized and it started pinning super early, 9 days after sending to bulk. Any chance that in any of the next flushes the center knots up and throws some fruits?

I never really got them to blue that much. You really need to let them sit after the veils have opened and reverted for quite some time. In my opinion you are really letting alkaloids degrade a lot like this. If "the look" is all that you are after than go a head  This is how mine turned out, no blueing, just blueing from handling ...

Edit; btw, how long did it take to this point? One of pita's for me in regards to JF is that it takes needlessly long for something that is average potency ...

Appreciate your advice a lot. Yeah sounds like it is not worth going for the blue gills then, just for some cool pics XD

I sent to bulk on September 20th, so 2 weeks to get to this point. I found beginning of pinning on this tub was ridiculously quick (9 days), but at a cost, huge patch in the middle uncolonized. Luckily it looks clean, I only just started opening the tub to have a proper look at surface conditions 3 days ago or so (It can be hard to judge with foggy walls/lid).

What I have no clue how to do is: How the hell do I pick a ready mushroom without disturbing the 10 or so smaller ones that are tight against the ready one? White mushrooms problems 😂

Anyways, thanks again Koma

Only two weeks! Damn, mine took a good month, I think 5 weeks or something like that. JF is known to be slow fruiter, I guess you got lucky with your genetics, at least in regards to time to harvest.

Looking at the fruits I would harvest in your tub atm I'd say you can't really get to them without disturbing adjacent ones too much. I would wait a day or so and pick them all up. Some will be readier then other's ... But I think you are worrying too much; when you dry the fruits the bruising isn't all that prominent. Look at the pic I attached just above ...

Edit: pick up the clusters that are ready, not the other parts of the tub if it's totally underdeveloped ...
