I am concerned about cross contam. Here's another picture of the first tray. Hopefully its less blurry.


Here's the second tray, damaged by the alcohol I think.


I'm trying to protect this other tray, and prevent trich from getting into my grow space.

Do the sus tubs smell coconuty? I had trich not long ago and the tub had a distinctive coconut smell to it, this was in early phase when it was VERY bright/matte white, before sporulating and turning green (it never got to get green, I tossed the tub as soon as I was very sure it was contaminated)

I am no expert at all, hell of a noob here, but your tubs look fine to me. Wait for more experienced growers to give their opinions though.

Definitely bruising (and metabolites, in the yellow bits). Good news for you is it's not trich and so probably not airborne (unless it's a sneaky ass white mold masquerading as myc fluff). I stand by my earlier stuff, let it ride and pretend it's not happening, it's a little unhappy but well colonized and might still put out a flush or two, you might still pull 100+ wet off each of those if they hang in there.

For comparison, see Experiments Growing Trich. Very different look.

That bright white thing in the top center of the tub 1 pic is suspect, but if it's pins, you're good. If it's dense white and powdery with defined edges, possibly early trich (at which point I'd spoon it out and continue to let it ride).

thanks my man. i think bright white at the top of pic #1 is just a big knot.

edit: i thought it was a big knot, but i spooned it out with a spoon rinsed in alcohol. it damaged a bit around it, but it's out of there.

Id litfa if u have good fae looks clean and u have some pins in pic 3 looks like :hatsoff:

Also fyi in a normal person's house there's probably plenty of mold spores in the air as there's 10s of thousands per sqm per minute blowing by outdoors xd n I doubt u sterilize urself or ur cloths when u come in / have all ur rooms in ur place 100% clean :laugh2:

Question tax-

Does anybody have any idea if it's absolutely necessary to be using a trivet for raising jars off the bottom in the instapot?

I think in puddings tek. He says something about it not being necessary. Yes for the PC obviously but not for the insta. Hes states Done countless runs without any issues.

Anybody else have any experience with this?

I'm just wondering cuz every once in awhile my jars not fit with a trivet. 

The very first run I did in it I didn't use a trivet I just put a piece of foil down so there was something between the jars and the bottom simply keeping them from directly touching the bottom. But still resting on it..

I've done a few more runs with court jar since then and they all fit fine but the one I'm trying to do right now for some reason the lids not wanting to fit and I can't get the positioning right even though it seems like there's plenty of room. Anyways I'm removing one of my jar rings on that area to make it happen.


Id just like to know moving forward if it's something I even have to care very much about or not?


It is technically not necessary to elevate the jars out of the water, it is only a standard practice in this community for some reason

Ive seen examples where some of the water just reaches up about an inch/inch and a half up the jars with water

anyone uses 2 piece mason jar canning lids?

how do you go about nocking up grains with wedges? you just slide the second piece with one finger to the side and drop or you take it off?

You want to be as quick as possible...of course use 70% iso, spray lid and gloved hands, inside SAB or in front of FFU/LFH, unscrew the jar, lift the lid just enough to fit the wedge in then drop it in

Some people take the whole lid off if they're in front of a LFH

thanks for the answer. all those precautions have of course been made. just asking specifically cause of the second lid.

is it not ideal to touch the outside from the jar while doing that?

isnt sliding it with one finger to the side the better move? am i missing something?

so the double piece mason jar lids.

you unscrew the one bit first and rest it on a rack.
then there is just the “lid” left. when you want to lift this piece like you described, since it’s flush with the jar, you’d have to touch the jar to lift it up.
what im thinking is to just put one finger on it and then just slide the bit to side (like halfway) drop the wedge and slide the lid back. then pick up the first piece again from the rack and screw it on.
are you familiar with the 2 piece mason jar lids?

I don´t know if bringing updates here is the thing to do, maybe I should post my own thread. Please tell me if bringing updates here is becoming annoying.

Yesterday I showed some pics here and a few of you mentioned that surface looked a bit on the dry side, which I had pointed out also.

So today I bought a fine mister and gave it the first mist. Loved the results, super fine droplets all across the surface, instant serotonin release.

Pins are popping and damn how exciting this is.

I had some grain ready to go that could have been sent a week ago but life gets in the middle. Sent another big tub and a tiny one just for the giggles (will probably fail but looks cute)

Also brought some pics of the LC expansion I did 3 days ago. One looks pretty good I think, the other has a sus look to it (AMVP).

My main question here is about the LC, would love to know what you guys think since its my first time ever having LC on my hands other than a bought syringe.

Thanks beforehand! And please tell me to stop bringing updates here if this is not the place for it.

And if you're planning on doing a log, it would make more sense to do it in a separate thread/growlog — mostly so you can track it more easily yourself instead of having to search around in here.

That looks like bruising.

I completely understand the fear. But it's a fear you really don't have to worry about.

it I mean if you've gotten to the point where you've letting something like trich go so far that is sporulate.

Then Sure  just be careful moving it around and stuff take that.  Donck knock it around and dust the place.  Meaning don't knock into it so hard that you dust the place with the powdery trich. (Hard to do) 

Take that small precaution and  I promise you you're not going to contaminate your grow space to where all your future grows but getting contaminated. 

Im growing in  a very small and enclosed walk in the shower. tubs of mold often. In the same room next to the same tubs. And and the two years I've been doing this.

It's never been an issue. With my tubs or my grow space.

And my shower has a leak that causes moldy mildew to grow right down the wall and grout where the it happens.

I've been talked off the ledge  by many others about this same topic.

And you'll come to find out a lot of the other OG's will say the same.

Once you get a little bit more experience in the game you'll learn to calm down a little bit about that and it will make things much easier on you I promise.

Ok I see, I personally wouldn't "slide" it because of the rubber gasket, you might tip the whole jar over. And if you spray your gloves with iso, there shouldn't be any problem with touching the jar itself with your other hand

Some people use tape to tape the ring to the lid so that you can lift them all up in one piece. Otherwise you have to loosen the ring and then pop the top but don't move it to the side or anything just lift it up just enough on one side to get the wedge in.

With practice you can get pretty good at it. But most people around here have just ventured away from the two-piece lids for that very reason. Now most of us around here is one piece plastic leak proof lids.

And then all the troubles and fumbling with the two pieces are obsolete.

It's worth the investment for sure.
So much easier to unscrew lift and screw back.
