I'm gonna sound like an old man here, but why use PP5 containers and lids when glass jars work so well? I assume we're talking about sterilized grains or substrate, right? I still feel like I'm missing context.

I think it's just a different brand, I have compared them to the ball lids and they look and feel exactly the same, I have to import them so for me they are a lot cheaper :begger:

To cook the perfect grain spawn, one must become the grain spawn.

Soak.
Steam.
Flourish.
Fill yourself with simple carbohydrates.

Yes, not even sure they're not from the same factory, that's how similar they are :strokebeard:

Ah, ok. I've been stuck on using these lids for years. Literally these lids, I've used some for over 100 rounds in the PC. They never go bad, I only make new ones when the tyvek envelope material gets worn out from the teeth of the jars. The work great for all projects other than LC jars.

Yeah, I hear you, I'm not totally convinced of their performance either. Still like rock hard stuffed polyfill for ease of installation, availability,
longevity and cost. Maybe I should look more into keeping the lids from getting wet during a run and stick with poly.

On the other hand though if people like LotKid don't have any problems just using 4 layers of micropore tape on their jars then one of those stickers
with a couple of layers of micropore tape on top should work just fine.

Anyway, proof will be in the pudding and I'm going to find out soon.

If you ever figure out how to keep your shit from getting wet please fill us in.

It doesn't matter how much foil and time I spend seailing the foil around my Lids that steam always forces its way through and gets all of my shit wet.

including the filters or whatever. I tend to just pat dry them off directly after and add one more piece of my tape if I'm feeling paranoid and move on.

And I normally don't have too many issues at least that's them from wet filters. At least I don't believe I do

wow sounds annoying, and those don't even last...

i've had these PTFE lids for over 10 years and they still work great.. had to get more a while back, those were made slightly different, with some sort of plastic layer and not 100% PTFE like they used to make.

I never use foil at all, and never have problems with water content changing.  if you use a whole filter then you don't have to worry about adhesives.  or you can cut it into 6 or 7 pieces to silicone on coin-sized pieces.

here are both kinds side by side, but they work the same.

these are different lid options I use that all work, but I prefer the whole filter without cutting them up and using silicone.

haven't used aluminum foil with this hobby in years.  perfect water content...

Not sure what you mean by water content changing.
We're just talking about the lids/ filters getting wet during the cycle.

When I said the water always focused thru. I only meant forces its way under the foil. No matter what you do.

I stopped using foil as well because it seemed to be no point. It did not keep my lids and filters from getting wet.

Feeling excited over these humble flyscreens.
Now I have 200x140cm (78x55 inches) of surface to spread my grains on, can't wait to cook the next batch to use them
No more managing it with improvised contraptions :dancer:

It may not actually work perfectly, but the other day I was preparing some jars, but had just been taping plates so my brain was still on taping and I started taping the foil onto the jars with micropore tape. 😅

But when I did open the foil the next day in the SAB I didn't see any wetting on the filters. Haven't really tested it more or found a proper implementation.

Awesome old school filters. I was always too chicken to try the USPS envelopes as filters but they're tyvek as far as I know.

I've always used foil out of habit, maybe it's time to change...
