When the best time to harvest i heard when they get marshmellow soft but the biggest on is hard as a rock do i just let it do its thing its been a while?

If the blueing areas on the caps are getting soft, and they have stopped growing, you should harvest before they begin deteriorating. Wow those are some big shrooms! Nicely done.:smile::mushroom2:

Marshmallow test works most the time with PE, though halted growth, caps blueing and getting softer on the bruised areas are also signs they have reached maturity.

Does anyone here sterilise things on a PC but without the pressure? I know it’s dumb, but my PC is quite loud when it does the decompressing every 5 minutes or so. Gives me anxiety to be using it often with neighbours right next door, trying to stay on the down low.

I’ve read that you can steam sterilise things but it takes like 3 hours for grain instead of 90-120 minutes?

Should I stop overthinking it and send it full pressure?

Send it full pressure. 3 hours will not be enough for grains. 3 hours is barely enough for a large bag of grains at 15psi.

Otherwise, stick with PF tek which can be steam sterilized

This is kind of an odd suggestion, but if you are worried about it, can some soup once in awhile and share with the neighbors. Happy neighbors, no worries

I made this recipe for my family this winter, but with ground beef added. They loved it. Really tasty stuff, great for an easy lunch or dinner and even better that it doesn't go bad at room temperature.

I don’t use a pc much but I don’t think the rocker should be venting every 5 min. It should just be a little wobble. If it is venting you have the heat too high

We might have different kinds of PC, mine doesn’t do the constant whistle, it builds up pressure and then releases it every now and then blasting steam of at quite high pressure, it’s only these moments that it becomes quite loud. I can compare it to some super strong irrigation system. The sound resembles some powerful garden sprinklers, for the record, I have a Hawkins Big Boy 22lt PC.

I think you are running it too hot. Constant venting could run it dry.

Love to hear this. I might be, I do turn it down once it first decompresses, but I thought that it had to do a decompression every now and then. I will do another run soon and will turn it down to just a little rocking on the weight.

Thanks man, this works perfectly for me. And I always add more water than the manual says so there’s Always some left at the bottom once cycle is done.

So to clarify, once I chuck the weight in, I wait for the first pressure release, then I turn the heat down and start my timer. If heat is quite low it shouldn’t decompress at all or should it still do it but not as often?

Yeah man you got it, you want to keep it kinda like simmering, not too low you don’t want the pressure to drop, but if it vents more than 1nce or max 2wice per hour I’d be dialing it down a hair.

On another note, powdered mushrooms in chocolates hold well for a long time right? better fridge or freezer?


I only use the freezer because if i put my chocolates in the fridge they melt too fast and it gets all over my fingers



Sounds like you need to focus a little bit more on the tempering process. If you temper your chocolate appropriately you should be able to just leave them out on the Shelf without any Refrigerationor freezing.  at all.

If tempered correctly they won't melt or get on your fingers or any of that. They'll be like a nice candy bar from the store that's super shiny and has a good snap.

Those whistle type pressure valves are designed to blast steam periodically like that to relieve steam. Rocker weights are much quieter.

Clone i made out of one of the PE's when it first fruited, how it looking? I had wrapped a stem in boiled cardboard and let it go till it turned all the way white and one day i accidentally opened one of the jars i had pced so i shoved that mfer inside. It colonized extremely fast idk if thats good or if i should be worried

How fast is "extremely fast"? Under a week? It looks a little on the wet side but not obviously fucked. Give it some extra time to colonize really thoroughly but it seems like it's on track.

I'm curious because it seems like mak-118 turns out like that a lot. from what I've seen in past grows. from other members and experienced in my own.

It's always just a tall/long straight stipe with like a ballpoint pen cap that doesn't really even open up much.

Basically just looking like thick giant mature pins.  Here's some examples from every time I've grown it. No matter how long I've let them go. what you see in some of those pictures the most it's ever opened up for me.

Holy Shit 0_Tonin this seems aggressive, I'd be scared to stand next to it lol. Once my PC reaches 15PSI I turn the burner to 50% and then it tickles 15psi for the remainder of the cycle. You dont need to keep the Burning on high to maintain pressure. Crank the heat to get it to 15psi then back off to maintain it. I have the basic presto but i'm sure this concept applies to most PCs. Pasty is on point.
