I've known of people who pour deep high nute plates as kind of a substitute for using slants. This is not me endorsing it.

Sure! Not convinced the extra nutes help that much, but a thick plate absolutely!

damn that came a bit late. i did not even wash my hands properly and just did it on the counter. well they are done now and cooling.

with the 2:2:1 i meant in grams on the scale. i hope it’s not turning out bad.

i dont have syringes i will just use the pucks to germ and get some clean growth.
i prefer agar for now seems like to much steps getting the syringes sorted haha

thanks a lot next time i’ll use gloves or atleast get it as sterile as possible.

wouldn’t be a problem going more than an hour aswell ? i did them toegehter with my grains for like 120min.
thats my first attempt at grains too. i did foos WBS TEK, seems like the most straight forward one. anyone got another one they swear by?

is it ok to send clone t0 plate if its clean looking?
my first ever grow will probably be gyms, i hope im not taking on more than i can handle starting with exotics

Personally I don't like sugary media for liquids or agar for that matter. Honey tends to produce a lot of sediment, this makes it harder to identify turbidity.

I'm also not a huge fan of Malt extract either. It also can still produce sediment and I also find it quite sugary. It's better than honey but not much IMO.

My go to for both agar and LC was always potato, instant potatoes are easier but leave a lot of sediment. But they are hands down a far better nute source IMO. GW water is probably my second choice and brf would be the 3rd place option for me.

Potato has given me the best growth on plates, and I've been doing Milkboys tek lately, which gives clear af plates. Awesome.

What's your method for LC?

I got an interesting one for everyone to pick apart.

I call this tub 'the stinky tub'

Before I understood good FAE circulation in a tub I spawned into this container which was originally meant for something like cereal. No Holes or MP tape, the lid was sealed completely choking the myc of fresh air.

later i poked holes in it but only after the thing started to smell of slight mildew... :waitthatsbad:

I spawned this thing on 8/21. fucked it up stinky and ended up just leaving it alone on the counter as an experiment figuring it was bad because the mildew smell must of meant it was contaminated of some sort.

A Month Later, after not touching it, I have these THIQ chonks growing in there (They're PE's) But the biggest one in there has,, hair? a Hat? Good sir,,

They are all a rag tag bunch, quite the motley crew

this guy looks like he got smacked with a hammer,

Does anyone know what caused/ causes the malformed caps, specifically the big one in the first 2 photos with the white cap? obviously this grow wasn't optimum and quite frankly I'm impressed at the pure resilience here.

There are some bacteria that thrive in low oxygen environments. This is the main reason we don't choke off tubs.

After I pasteurize a manure substrate if I'm going to store it in a bucket I only close the lid halfway because otherwise it goes foul.

Bacteria can cause weird mutations.

What likely happened is the introduction of oxygen eventually killed off that bacteria allowing it to flush but not before whatever mechanism causes the mutated caps took effect.

The mycelium on the cap itself is usually caused by high humidity.

Can anyone explain why mycelium needs a spot on field capacity substrate to run smoothly, because if its too wet it will struggle to breath?

When hydrating a cake after the first flush, they say dont leave it for too long or you will drown the mycelium.

We even create holes in jars for breathing, filter patches in bags, all for mycelium to breathe.

And then the motherfucker grows FULLY under water when we do LC.

Make it make sense.

To create optimal pinning conditions/surface conditions in my humble opinion.

And fyi I seen fruits directly off the surface of old lc so it's possible just not optimal lol

Mycelium can grow in a sterile liquid solution because it is without competition, in a substrate such as a cake it is exposed and the excess moisture is a host for contamination to over take it.

However there needs to be available air for pinning to occur. Which is why you don't see fruiting occur anywhere but the surface of agar plates or air bubbles within a LC syringe.

Mycelium can sometimes persevere in an oversaturated substrate, but this makes it much more vulnerable if any contaminate is present.

If you are using 500ml bottles, 8g agar agar powder, 8g LME 400ml water otherwise it's 2g of each dry ingredient per 100ml :mushroom2:

Step 1: add ingredients and shake until mixed

Step 2: microwave until boiling, stand back and watch so it doesn't make a huge mess and boil over

Step 3: turn lid a quarter turn loose, cover with foil and PC for 30min

Step 4: after cooling, microwave again until liquid, allow it to cool to between 110-130 and pour. If you are without a infrared thermometer it should feel very warm, maybe burning your hand ever so slightly but not uncomfortably so.

Yeah just pour them after the initial microwaving and load em in the PC, though you may need to cover them in some way. I'm not 100% sure how though. I've read of people loading them in a vessel or using foil. Though I don't have experience using no pours and don't want to steer you wrong

I have never boiled/microwaved agar (brf or lme) before PC-ing and seemingly turned out fine every time. Just chucked everything in the media bottle, gave it few swirls or shakes and into the PC.

Does the boiling matter for something like clarity or disolving stuff, or do some agar brands not set otherwise?

Hey, I always tend to make too much casing and would like to recycle and reuse if possible. Can you repasteurize 2-3 week+ old casing material for pans which was stored in a bag? Or toss it and mix up a new casing from peat+verm+CaCO3?
