setting up a Martha with an AC Infinity cloudforge T7 humidifier
    #29674324 -

I got this tent, locally, used, for cheap, and immediately took out the fan that came with it.  I put the humidifier's tube in the hole that the fan came out of (at the top/back of the tent), and turned the humidifier on a 15min on / 15min off cycle, following the recommendations of 99.99

But 99.99 uses a different humidifier.  this cloudforge T7 pumps out a ton of water, and it quickly started raining in the tent, and filling the floor tray, so that was way too much water.

I learned that the cloudforge has settings to adjust how much moisture is put out while its running, so i turned it down to the 1 setting (low)... for now.

I need to figure out what moisture setting to use in combination with on/off time intervals.  I hope to not rely on the RH meter, just the timer.

There is a lot more spawn ready to be spawned in here.  so far there are tampanensis and subtropicalis trays in there.

and Pan bisporus and cyanescens will be spawned with pasteurized substrate tomorrow.

I realize these species like different conditions, slightly.  but I want to let these things out of the jars and have them tell me how they like it.

what moisture level setting is good, at which intervals?

It didn't feel right suggesting something you said you didn't really want to do, but since you have no replies and asked the same in the confessional I'll do it anyway :hehehe:

I have the T3 and I have been using the auto function since day one, you can't use the rH % to dial in the tent, you will have to monitor the casing and/or surface conditions until it's dialed in.

Other things that will influence conditions are what kind of trays you use, how deep the substrate is, what the casing is made of, how high the walls on the trays are, how full the tent is etc. So dialing it in can only happen when you have something in the tent and by using your eyes.

Then there's also the fact that a automated setup isn't 100% automated, right after casing you might have to manually mist, when the fruits fill the trays you might have to dial down the humidity some, some fruits love being misted but will not tolerate a soggy substrate.

The auto function has been very consistent for me, and I suggest you at least try it :awesomenod:

Auto-what?  based on the VPD? or RH?  or auto-on/off timers, theres so much automation possible

the touch-screen computer-like nature of this humidifier is confusing... i just figured out the on/off timer cycle the second time after reading their instructions.

Thanks for the help kloakk, what auto-setting do you have yours at?  and what's your tent like?

This type of humidifier is really nice because you can adjust from basically nothing to full on fog

I like it because you can find a comfortable setting. I do this one about halfway and then I set up a timer to turn on and off every 15 minutes and therefore I can adjust the amount of moisture that comes out of the humidifier and the time the humidifier is on.

I also leave the tub ,the tent sits in with about 3 inches of water in it to seal up around the bottom of the tent this acts as a gasket to help keep moisture inside the tent when the humidifier is not on

Normally, I can tell the humidity is right by it being slightly foggy inside the tent, but tamps love it wet so as long as your stuff does not pool in water, it is great. I normally keep holes in my aluminum trays to let the excess water drip out.

This i the tray i use

Yuo need to check dimensions and make sure the tent you have fits all the standard Martha tents do fit

ok i like that that is cheap and simple, but I already got this cloudforge, and they can also be adjusted to almost nothing to full fog (1-5), and has a timer.  so maybe i'll try putting the fog intensity on 2 or 3 for 15min on/15min off.

looks like in mixing up suggestions from different people i got an overly complicated and more powerful humidifier than was necessary for this little tent.

Funny thing is my friend wanted a 4x8 grow tent, vivosun, and went ahead and bought that earlier.  I said that's way bigger than we need and to return it.  turns out he can't return it, so we have that sitting around.  Also i have enough spawn to max out this martha x2 right now, so maybe we should just set up that big 4x8 tent with this cloudforge...  it might actually be better with how long subtropicalis can be in the tent for.

I let the RH sensor determen when the humidifier turns on and off, I believe it is the only function that says auto on the display.

I don't have a tent, I have dreamer tubs, but that shouldn't matter. Since you have the big T7 I would set the fog amount to 1 as I believe you wrote you already have and start at 80% RH and just dial it in from there.

Well, all I can say is what I have and how I do it,… not that it is the best way, but it’s the way that works great for me so keep trying. You’ll find something that works out.

But I would like to say you need something at the bottom of that greenhouse to collect extra moisture even a small kid pool would work out. It would help keep the moisture inside the tent as well as keeping the water from running all over.

thanks for the input. My friend had changed the humidifier to the 0 setting (i guess it's 0-5, not just 1-5) on for 2 mins off for 20, that's been keeping the sensor at 93%, the walls are dry, and the top of the substrates look, pretty dry, with maybe a droplet of water or two, but probably on the dry side.

this is what the trays from 9/18 look like now (p. tampanensis and p. subtropicalis)

We spawned 7 trays of pans in the FC and it looked like this

then we realized that if we switched the wire racks around, removing a gap on the top rack (which may have been a stupid move, as that was designed to allow circulation)

(also removing the sticker on the front so as to remove vendor names and not endorse that overpriced product)
In this picture you can see that there is a tray at the bottom that the whole tent sits in, though it would only hold an inch or so of water and would be hard to make it work for that gasket effect 99.99 mentioned.

then we could fit 12 trays total, so 9 pan trays were spawned today (pan bisporus colville, pan cyanescens portland, and pan cyanescens peace river), although the pasteurized substrate did sit in the bag for 4 days, which was longer than i was hoping for, and it smelled like urea, especially at the bottom, i hope it's good enough.

to answer all the questions about why i prefer using the timer rather than the auto RH function, it's because of a general distrust in hygrometers, but also because when we tried that, (ok i admit it was set to 93%RH, not 80 like kloakk suggested)  the humidifier would maintain 93% but would never cycle off, it would just continue to run.  especially with pans, they rely on an evaporation cycle to cool themselves (says tree frog), rather than staying at a consistent RH, so cycles of wetter conditions followed by evaporation are what I thought I was going for.

You might have made the same mistake I did when I first got the cloudforge. When using the AUTO mode you also have to configure the ON mode and OFF mode.

The amount of fog coming out when AUTO mode is triggered by the sensor will be what you set it to in ON mode, but if the fog input is not set to 0 in OFF mode it will not come to a complete stop.

It does say so in the manual, but I'm slow and it took me a good hour to understand what I was reading :muppet:

Edit: I would start at 80% because you don't want to flood your trays, usually I will run it on 85-95% depending on species and time of the year because of humidity of the indoor environment.

So a couple things that I’ve noticed
First off, do your trays have holes poked in them to allow excess water to drip through therefore, your pans can be a lot wetter than they look they look kind of dry to me
This photo was normally how wet I keep mine

Second, if you stagger your trays like this three on a shelf, you can still get 12 trays in your Martha, but with this set up, the moisture is able to get between all the trays

Third, if you use oversized plastic lids for your trays, it lets the humidity of the Martha keep your substrate, wet and humid without getting water on your substrate
When I grow pans, this is what I do with them until I am ready to pick

Like this

Pans are notorious for a boarding if they get too much water as pins so it is necessary with them, but not tamps
