I became a Dad. I realized my family didn't need the negativity and issues I was bringing home with me every day. So I decided to try to do better for them.

Seeing the changes in others who had tried shrooms and found relief (friends who were former military members and a few officers) led me to look into what the science had to say about them. The data was 'good,' but it wasn't until the last 5-8 years that science was finally allowed to push forward. If I had tried to conduct my study 10 years ago, I would have been 'gently' pushed to do something different. There wasn't enough backing to even try it.

On the change in view about the people I used to babysit by force, it's a really long, depressing series of stories.

I couldn't care less about legal status and political needs. If something can help alleviate suffering, it should be studied and provided to those in need.

I feel like I'm having wrist strain, and I think a lot of shaking jars has to do with it. I have dainty pianist hands and wrists like a nancy fairy boy.

What exercises have you tried to counter balance that? I do plan on heading back to the gym.

I used to do dumbell wrist curls, wondering if y'all have other recs for things that worked for you.

If you have a pull-up bar at home (if not — you can use a towel jammed in a closed door), I'd recommend hanging for 7 minutes a day for 30 consecutive days.

I don't mean doing it all in one go, but rather accumulating that total time throughout the day. From what you're saying, you seem to lean more towards an ectomorph build, and I'm not sure if you have a bit of hypermobility. So I'd recommend starting with an Active Hang (scapulae retracted and depressed) during the first few weeks, and then progressively moving toward a Dead Hang (scapulae relaxed). Try to vary your grips throughout the day (pronated, supinated, neutral, irregular).

That isometric tension is exactly what would be awesome for your joint integrity — your shoulders will benefit huge from this too.

And besides that, for me, the undisputed king of wrist conditioning are exercises by Coach Sommer, one of the US Olympic gymnastics coaches:

You could incorporate these very progressively — they don't require a gym. And believe me, Olympic rings demand superhuman wrist integrity.

You can modify the intensity of the exercises by changing the leverage (wall, high table, low table, on your knees on the floor, full plank on the floor, etc.).

If I find a better video, I'll send it your way. I know there was a better one out there.

Hugs

This sounds incredible. I know it's probably not easy or fun to talk about but thank you for sharing. Honestly this would make a New York Times best seller in a heartbeat with the correct editing.

I think the question we are all dying to ask though is;

Do you partake? Or have you?

By the way, you're not the first ex law enforcement I've heard to say things like this.  My old boxing coach from my high school years was also ex military/emt/law enforcement.

The catalyst was for him, his teenage daughter dying of a fentanyl overdose.  He reached out when i was in my 30's. Id like to think Ive helped him find a way to heal at least to a liveable degree although i dont think one ever truly heals from that kind of thing.  We have members here with similar trauma who can attest

This is amazing Jwelch, I wish I could give more energy into a response but im at work 😫.

I think this is the exact mindset and change that psychedelics brings to their users. Introspective life changing perspectives, lessons, wisdom, and both understanding and challenging of self. I contribute a lot of my healing and ability to understand and empathize with others and the universe to psychedelics.

People find a lot of what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. And that in itself is a healing mechanism.

Given that the study is ongoing I can't answer that directly here. If anyone has that type of question for me, feel free to message me.

I honestly don't know how anyone survives the death of a child. I don't think I could. The fact that you were there for him in any way speaks volumes.

Though I've been on Shroomery for a couple of years, I post infrequently but lurk a lot. Not great at interactions, I am socially impaired...ptsd resulting from some 18 years in federal prison '93 to 2011.  The sentence was a result of a non violent drug offense...manufacture. Initially I was offered a 10 year sentence if I would cooperate, debrief on everyone I had ever worked with, some being very close friends. I was also told that if I left anyone out in my debriefing and it later came to light, that would queer the deal and I would be resentenced to a full 20. If I refused to debrief, I would get the full 20 anyway.  Know that I couldn't roll over nor could I do that much time, I determined to take the 20 and off myself soon after I arrived in prison. I figured that taking myself off would be a simple transaction, an easy exit. It was not. The most harrowing point of my sentence was the 9 year mark. After enduring 9 years of overwhelming shit...riot and lockdowns, watching murders on the weight pile and in the units, dealing with scores of sadistic prison guards (not all prison guards were sadists but prison has quite a few), and enduring more than a few cretinous sociopathic convicts, you realize that you are only at the halfway mark and that you're going to have to repeat that 9 year stretch and all that it entailed yet again.  That's when a sort of emotional rigor mortis sets in.
I have been out since 2011, though I still return to prison 3 or 4 nights a week with some recurring nighmare sweatfests,
I have been using mushrooms for the past few years to decompress, though I can't take too large a dose or the panic locked inside starts to surface. Franz Kafka says that we should only read the kinds of books that act like an axe to the frozen sea inside us. I suppose that psilocybin is currently doing that for me. Reading posts from an ex prison guard unleashed this diatribe. Make of it what you will.

I lost a dear friend in a pretty horrific accident a couple years ago, I'm also good friends with her father, there were times I'd be hanging out with him more and she'd give me shit for it lol. A few years prior to her death, her brother died of an overdose on xmas. This man lost both of his adult children in the span of a handful of years, I have no idea how he manages to keep it together.

Thank you for writing it, and I'm sorry that a post from someone who wore that uniform pulled it all back up for you. That wasn't my intent, but I understand why it did.

I won't argue the point about guards. There were some that were an outright disgrace. There were also good ones who quit, or drank, or didn't make it, because the place wears down everyone inside it, whichever side of the door they're on.

What you described at the front end, cooperate or take twenty, is the bullshit machine as I saw it. Nothing was real unless it was on paper and in your lawyer's hand at that exact moment. I watched it used as leverage far more than as justice. And once you were inside, I watched twenty-one-year-olds with no violence in their history get housed with men who had spent their lives at it. Twenty-one is a kid, no matter who is trying to say otherwise. Prison was never built to fix anybody. It was built to punish, and whatever people tell themselves about the rest, that is what it does.

The Kafka line is solid. I'm glad you've found something that reaches the frozen part. Healing is a marathon; you'll get there.

I appreciate that man.
He and I were the "black sheep" of the fam - and "bookends", as the siblings call it since I'm the youngest.
There was a lot of friction between him and my parents (and my parents and I, to boot. They're rather conservative), but I think that was a learning experience for them as I'm not nearly as estranged from the rest of the fam as he was. I think losing him, tragic as it was, brought our family closer together. Tbh, I think my parents just realized what was really important in life.

Holy shit guys, this is some heavy weight conversation.

I couldnt even imagine Stubb,,,

And Blakeyface,, im glad you're out, im sorry you deal with all that im sure its an anchor on your heart, mind, and soul. Im glad you found psilocybin.

This is quite a dynamic to observe as a 3rd party, both ends of the spectrum.

My girlfriends step dad's side of the family is all law enforcement, and here I am growing Mushies. Blakeyface and Jwlech both of your point of views are impactful.

Im glad both of you made it out. Its a wild place to be in.
