Psttt thanks for the help bringing the new species/variety to hobbyists!

Pan. India on agar

Is it considered Bisporus, or Cyanescens yet or it's own species???
Trying to/been reading up on it, rather mysterious either way.

I guess I'd be willing to adopt a print so it can get some one-on-one attention. Do you have any prints of them Peace River pans? I'll put that bitch to work! :pimp:

Baba,
thanks for looking back! I ended up doing one more B&S and they didn’t come back at all. They were aggressive, but those were also some of the first jars I did coming back and part of my first time ever working with agar so my technique left a lot to be desired. These were also from a plate that was given to me, so I didn’t start from spores.

I did do more jars with the transfers from the plates I used in those jars and it turned out pretty bacterial. That’s when I embarked on trying to clean up the plates.

It’s totally possible that the plates were fine and I was just a newb. I totally admit it. But there was a lot of bruising like tons during break and shake, almost black. Then a very long recovery if any. But the rebound and growth looked fine UNTIL the last B&S after full colonization. I was running modified lids, cubes grown from same jar batch were good.

I was also using oats and I have rad oats work, but others are better for pans. Idk what do you guys think about that?

All of my agar at first was 10g agar 10g lme and 500ml and tons of condensation.

I would recommend to spawn at least two or three jar if they turn out like this, even if it is to just confirm your hunch that they are f'ed. I find that a late shake does more often than not look like shit but but are actually not bacterial and can turn out just fine when spawned.

I have made a post about this almost 3 years ago.

I have not grown TTBVI yet but it strikes me as one of the pans which likes doing weird on another level.....sometimes you have to go against your gut feeling and run things through right to the end, even if you think failure is inevitable. Like Sherlock Holmes said:

"When You Have Eliminated the Impossible Whatever Remains, However Improbable, Must Be the Truth"

At least sometimes it is

I second this. From my past experience trying to clean up wild cube prints, sometimes you can still get the culture to fruit even if it has a small contam. Then you can clone clean culture from the fruit. Not sure about Pans since I'm just learning them now, but as fast as everyone says they colonize and fruit, it seems like that could be a viable way for Pans too.

Finally got my head out of my ass and started on my first pans project.

Today I did transfers from T0 to T1 on Bisporus and TTBVI:smile: To be honest I have almost no clue on how to grow them :muppet: That probably one of the reasons why I haven't started earlier.

Is there any differences between Bisporus and TTBVI cultivation wise? I'm most likely going to use a Martha like fruiting chamber.

Well Bisporus is really whispy and thin, looks almost like mold

Before casing

Bisporus will also fruit at lower temperatures and tolerate less FAE, but they can certainly be grown in the same conditions, substrate and casing.

Bisporus will have no problem getting misted, while TTBVI will cry until their face turns blue, for the most part unless you get lucky and find a culture that will accept it

I have been running them around 24-26°C, glad to see you getting started with pans bud

AND... the SD card is full, guess I need to backup some photos and clear up some space, but I did get a shot of the second flush of Komodo/BVI before chopping ER' down.  Not a great spore dropper though, a few decent prints, and a few light ones, ahwell, do another round of caps IS the only option.

That's pretty much been why I started with Pans after years of not growing anything. There is a guy at work who grows cubes, and the father of a girl that works there also grows cubes. Back in the day when I was the only guy there growing cubes, I had no competition. Then I hit them with allenii for a couple seasons before the beds started to fail to produce. Then a few years ago I had a very potent culture of Melmacs, so my cubes were better than the other guy's. Now I need to up my game so my reputation as "The Wizard" is not outshined by others. :strokebeard2::shrug:

From those pics baba this sussy looking plate actually looking promising now. Kamodo bvii

I transfered a small spore germination to a new plate n also some of the leading edge of whatever that bigger mass is (it's speed makes me think mold though looks kinda similar to those pics?)

Hard to tell from this photo and at this stage.

Could be good, mold or both. Only more transfers will tell. What does it look like when you are holding up against a light. IME mold does block out light, while pan myc stays translucent.

If this stays that fluffy over more transfers then try reducing the LME down to 0.2%.

Since we are talking healthy mycelium doing starnge things I want to add this little conversation as a refresher
regarding weird things that bisporus mycelium does sometimes. It's not a contamination, just a discoloration
which is what some exotic psilocybs are doing IIRC but way more unusual for panaeolus.

kirkeng said:
Baba Yaga said:
Has anyone ever seen bisporus discolor? I have rust brown spots appear two weeks or so after full colonization. It's not the mycelium turning color but the verm/brf. Any clues?

I have seen this in older cultures on agar, I think I have a plate where it shows somewhere in my office, I’ll look tomorrow for it and report back if I find it. My last clone I ran showed discoloration in red dots, though I think the discoloration showed up later. I’m usually running cultures before they grow out much and I don’t recall ever seeing it until the plate is mostly grown out.

All that being said I can’t recall ever seeing it outside of an agar plate… I’ll also check my older tubs tomorrow to see if that rust has shown anywhere.

Baba Yaga said:
Thanks man, just had a look at the label on the pucks and it said inoclulated on Oct. 17 so this turned up about 18 days after full colonization. I remember seeing the rust color appear first right around the transferred agar piece. The agar plates from the same transfer session are looking all normal so far.

Your comment is reassuring as it doesn't look like any mold and bacteria wouldn't spread like that on BRF I suppose. Would like to see your plate....oh wait....I just remembered seeing a spot like this on one of the germination plates......Cool, I had it still sitting on the kitchen bench.

This one is 5 weeks old

kirkeng said:
Yea that’s exactly what I remember mine looking like! I imagine it’s gotta just be some age something or metabolite coloration?

SwabMarley said:
I’ve had it in old agar plates. Like concentrated myc balls that kinda go brown. Like you say, maybe some sort of metabolite production. I think it’s just because the mycelium has aged maybe?
