Nice trays, faht.

I am spawning my first trays in over a year today. Moving out of state really set me back.

I am going to be figuring out the ziplocks because I just don't have the space for a tent.

I am at 7000 ft and relative humidity here is super low, like 25%. It's like learning from scratch.

Ty.  It’ll be nice to see some Asura grows again.  Yeah, that’s pretty low rh.  I’ve had a thought that if things were ever to get that bad for me, I’d try finding a second tray that was slightly bigger than the sub tray and put the sub tray inside it with some water in the larger tray.  That might take some responsibility off the sub and casing to provide humidity inside the bag and keep it from drying out too fast.

I use liners so I kind of do that now with second+ flushes.. the sub shrinks a bit so I’ll leave some water chillin in the tray.  Seems to help at least a little bit.

Oooh a second tray is a good idea. Maybe I can put two trays in the bag. Bottom tray filled with water
and the sub tray on top at 90 degrees. Thanks for that.

Nice thing about low RH is that mold is way less of an issue here.

hey fahster, finally got the nerve to try your h2o2 soak for clones...15minute soak followed by distilled water dunk onto water agar. 2 days in and the results are looking really good, better than my limited attempts to do a straight clone to wa. really appreciate the strategy. thanks

I have a tent and I am dealing with the same here, 23-25% and I am running it at 97.5 H with a 1.5 diff, and it still is a challenge for pinning. I am only getting a touch of wetness on the rail (finally, any wetness is a good sign at this point), nowhere else.  Learning curve for me too, I don't normally grow in these conditions, or time of year, but I'm up for the challenge.

Our "monsoon season" is running late this year. Hopefully, I will have a good month of high RH when it starts.

This place is crazy. You can walk outside in the heat and you will not visibly sweat at all.

You hit the nail on the head. I’m mainly looking at fruit size and canopy density. These trays side & bottom pinned like hell as well.

Here are a couple of ideal (imo) trays. I ran these pan “jambo” (also probs a cyan) on half the dose of CV+ and a mix of canary seed & rye. Same conditions, much bigger fruits.

I will probably just text you but are you halfing both or just the nkp?

Also, I've done a couple of write ups on combos but haven't posted one here.  I'm fairly sure it's a phenotype rather than a separate species.  The microscopic differences aren't much.  They interbreed easily.  And the ITS is all showing cyans (I've had this conversation with Mojave and it's probably what he is alluding to in his post).

Tree frog, what I want to know is this. I had like a year of grows that all had small fruits. Is the consensus these days that this happens from too
much nutrition? My only change really was switching from milo to rye.

I think they produce more but smaller mushrooms, which isn't fun to harvest.  And sometimes more aborts.  Though a lot of the aborts will be second flush fruits if they're not overwatered and the colony is healthy.  And assuming they don't contaminate, I think they flush longer.

I think I would have enjoyed harvesting this more if I they produced a third of the mushrooms and they were a third larger.

But I don't know that switching from Milo to rye would do it 🤷‍♀️  I think some genetics are smaller overall too.

I did notice that my fruits were smaller when I tried straight cv+ and doubled the original recipe of npk (because I omitted the worm castings)

But then again these are 1:2.5 with Mojave’s original recipe with 12.5% wc’s..

It is 2nd flush tho so some nutes have been depleted.  I Personally think genetics play a role.  I’ve also halved my ratio to two trays and saw less pinning but not necessarily larger fruits than normal.  I think over watering can stunt fruits just like with cubes etc.  just my .02. Mojave’s got a good eye tho

Yeah I also think genetics plays a role and environmental factors too.

Some evaporation helps caps get bigger too.  I get more tall and lanky cyans when I run the humidity high with small caps.  But I like the tall and lanky India and other species like high humidity too.  So my cyans tend to suffer.

I have noticed that whether the fruits are big or small, the final dry weight
is usually the same. 28g/tray on the nose almost every time.

That’s about what I got from my most recent trays.  Did 1 qt of millet each to 1 tray, 2 trays, and 3 trays.  The set of two trays had a different substrate mix, and had a combined yield of around 20g.  The single and triple trays yielded somewhere north of 72 grams together, so around 90 grams first flush from three quarts.

Hey fahtster a couple of questions...how did you make those 1/4 holes in your ziplocks and at what stage do you add the bags.  TIA

Good points, I agree with ya. I don’t mean to imply that nutes are the whole shebang, just what I’m focusing on atm as I control for other factors like environment, hydration, etc. Genetics are a bit of a tossup rocking mostly MS grows, so I stick to stuff I’ve grown a lot of for these trials.

Just the NPK. Seems like the most impactful dial to turn. I’ll fuck with the micronutes once I’m settled on the NPK. And yeah my “probs a cyan” is informed by my convos with you  plus both Jambo and Brooksville fka Sandoz are listed as likely cyans on sporeworks now.

And this is it in a nutshell. I have several autoimmune diseases so I get tired very easily 😆 I would like my harvests to be as easy as possible. I’d rather snip 100 chunky fruits than several hundred bean sprouts. And who doesn’t want bigger prints?

This as well. Same yield, varied amounts of effort required to harvest. Why not optimize for bigguns

Re: grain, I didn’t notice much of a difference switching between the standard grains. Nothing that made me tweak my CV+ at least. My nitpicks are mostly about colonization speed & how easy my eye can read mycelium on a given grain. However I am noticing a difference with canary seed & will certainly need to adjust.
