An essential component of cultural evolution, and of Teilhard’s entire scheme, is freedom. Humans must be free to evolve, whether this be individually or collectively, and this cannot happen in an authoritarian or otherwise repressive society. The noosphere cannot complexify, cannot evolve properly, if humans are at all muzzled with respect to what they think, say and do (within reason).

We must be allowed to fulfill ourselves, to strive to arrive at the outermost limits of our consciousness. Human vision may grasp a thing, and then use this thing a new jumping-off point, to stoke further visions, which in principle can continue without limit. The aim of thought is to continue to the farthest end of a convergent sequence, propagating without limit and always onward, higher and higher. There can be no confines. Consciousness left alone has no limit. So humanity, if it is not to derail evolution, must govern itself very wisely.

It is possible that the whole concept of a question or an explanation is only programming found in certain species of primate, and that we seem rather ridiculous to any advanced beings out there.

One of the most interesting effects is the feeling of awakening for the first time ever from a previous state of sleep, of liberation from what is now seen as a life-long state of bondage. Paradoxically, it is this new awareness that feels normal and natural and the previous fog is seen to have been unreal all along. The bemushroomed seeker is convinced that, once gained, this awareness is impossible to lose, but inexplicably by the next day it is just a memory

I've accepted that I can't fit "5D experiences" into 3D understanding. I've tried in vain. I wrote a book, as you did, and it was mostly for me: trying to get my thoughts down. I've tried dancing, I've tried meditation, I've tried everything, and I can never get what that "feeling" and understanding is that I have on psilocybin, weed, or ketamine. Can you?

When you take psilocybin, do you get that feeling of how strange and magical it is to exist? Like, looking at your hands, do you get the feeling that this is absolutely incredible that you are a Being of consciousness, One as the Universe, experiencing reality?

What is step three in your book? You've had 45 years of contemplation with mysticism: how have your views on the nature of existence evolved?

One phenomenon one sees in those who have become Enlightened, or even just begun upon the path of Buddhism, is a total lack of interest in worldly matters. Money is seen as, not only unimportant for fulfillment, but essentially a curse, and there are really no activities or goods and services that interest the incipient practitioner. There is nothing in the world, save liberation from it, that the yogi has any care for whatsoever. This is a recurring theme throughout history; typically, rich individuals who have found mysticism renounce their worldly life and become religious or spiritual followers of some tradition. The key element in their ability to do this is leisure.

At courts where everyone had a lot of money, leisure was a reality, and presented the option to many people over the course of history to follow holy paths. The ninety-nine percent of the population that was not rich did not have that option, unless they entered monasteries at a young age, which of course is a bit different.

So as far as asceticism goes, a yogi does not see himself thus, but rather as one for whom the mundane world, which so occupies ordinary people, has no allure at all. By the same token, a Buddha who has achieved Perfect Enlightenment does not feel he has ‘renounced’ anything at all, for there is nothing in the world that he desires. He regards nothing as his possession. There is nothing for him to renounce. Asceticism and self-torture, then, are misconceptions; the Buddha or yogi invariably lives a much more joyful life. The inner, spiritual realm is seen to be much more important and real than any normal social materialist existence.
