That's about buying votes.  Trump didn't tell people that he'd pay them if they vote for him.  Can you cite a statute that makes it illegal to make campaign promises?

Every campaign promise is contingent on winning an election, is it not?  Either all campaign promises are illegal or none are under that code.

So the implication made when you say "if republicans win the midterms" or "if you vote for me to be governor" you will get direct direct payments isn't an implication of "if you vote for me I will pay you".

But neither politician said that. They aren't offering just to pay people who vote for them. They are offering to pay everybody including those who do not vote at all or vote against them.

Yea I guess. Why don't you go ahead and tell that other fella who's saying what Trump did is illegal and not what Walz is.

this is a problem in politics the world over , where politicians say or do something that is obviously morally wrong but all you are going to get back (usually from them) is 'yeah but i aint breaking the law' - laws which have usually been enacted by the very people that are using the loophole

"but what about XYZ?" isn't a valid defense.  tim waltz isn't the sitting president of the united states nor is he the de facto head of his political party.

it's sad that shit this simple has to be explained to you.

I don't see how Trump's statement is illegal, though.  He can't send checks without Congress, so there won't be any checks unless the pubs win the midterms.  He's making a simple statement of intention.  That's not illegal.  It's a lie, sure, but lying isn't illegal.

I'm just dropping in to assert that DJT is the most pathetic, immature and petty leader in America's history.

There is no reasonable defense of this man's choices and actions while in office this term.  As a neighbor who has loved and appreciated America for it's advancements in society, science and culture...  I'm just astonished at how quickly and easily it was for one man to turn the world against such a great country.

ummm I'm pretty sure I was saying what both of them did was illegal.

My main point is you're acting like Trump is committing some unprecedented crime by saying that he'll give everyone checks if the republicans win the midterms. First off, its not unprecedented, Tim Walz did it. Two, apparently it's not a crime. It's highly inappropriate but not illegal I guess. Three, Tim Walz was the Vice Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party and the multiple time governor of Minnesota. He isn't some small time politician. Fourth, this country operates largely on precedent, both culturally and legally. So technically, if someone else did it, in a lot of cases yes that would excuse a behavior.

But to be fair, the Democratic Party is a joke and broken from within and Trump is obviously bigger than any politician we've seen on the American political scene. Which, I would blame the Democratic party for doing. And George Bush Jr for privatizing FCC licenses. Honestly, thinking back to 2015, it would have been so easy for the Democratic Party to win. Their incompetence should be studied for generations. It should be like a Brother's Grimm Tale that serves as a warning to humans everywhere, for all time.

Generalize... if you want to be a bigoted nationalist, but, we are actually 40 million individuals, each with our own beliefs.

You, of all people, should know that professional speech has greater consequence than citizen speech.  A president should establish the precedent in professional speech.

I don't support laws that restrict general citizens from saying anything.  They don't have any authority or responsibility, other than to themselves.  A person in leadership, especially elected leadership, has both, to the entirety of whatever community they represent.

I imagine a world, where a platform promise has serious consequences if not delivered upon. If you are against that, it does not surprise me, coming from an individual who presents AS position and use it to troll and agitate.

There isn't much to study, they simply overestimated the electorate and failed to grasp just how detached from reality voters in this country had become.

Nominating Hillary was a stupid move, she was too polarizing a figure with too much baggage to use against her. Whether that baggage was legitimate or not is pretty much irrelevant. But no halfway intelligent, reasonably well adjusted person could even imagine someone like Trump building up a cult of personality around them as Trump did.

She wasn't polarizing. No one likes her. She is completely non-polar in how she comes off. The only people who voted for her did so for 2 reasons: she was a woman and they didn't want Trump in office (and to be honest a large portion of people who voted for Trump did so cause they hate Hilary. Same with Kamala). But they decided to overtly fuck over Bernie Sanders, the person everyone actually wanted to win, and not even try to hide it until after the election. Also, it was blatantly obvious after the first GOP debate Trump was gonna win the GOP nomination at the very least, and then after the "you'd be in jail" comment it was obvious he was gonna win the presidency. It wasn't as obvious he was going to have the cult of personality that he developed, at first, but it was after a certain amount of time. It wasn't obvious to the Democrats cause the Democrats don't look at vast tracts of the US voting population as actual people. They view them as less than halfway intelligent and unreasonable, and therefor below them.

But your comment is why it needs to be studied. You're still in a state of denial and delusion and honestly, its worrying, because a large tract of Democratic voters still haven't learned their lesson. They think cause they have better morals and intentions they can act however they want and its obvious that you should only vote for Democratic candidates cause GOP candidates are evil. To a large portion of voters, both Democratic and GOP, how the Democratic party has acted since 2015 is completely indefensible and without even an apology there is no certainty the Democrats won't keep acting completely insane. So they'll either not vote, or vote GOP cause it's the lesser of two evils. AOC understands this, which is why you saw her coming out with her "Woke 1.0 went too far" in a half assed attempt at apologizing to voters. But it's telling not a single other Democratic politician echoed her sentiment. She is the only one smart enough on the left to understand the average American. And she seems kind of retarded.

That is why this needs to be studied. How can for an entire decade the answer to why the Democratic party is losing constantly to a massive orange buffoon who is a literally a fucking moron and Isreal first politician stares at you in the face and you still can't figure it out. About once a week the Democrats have an opportunity to regain political ground and they basically just dig themselves deeper into a hole where idk, it might be too late. But they STILL think they have a chance and don't change how they approach anything, as if people have just forgotten how they've acted for 10 years. It's funny, the Democrats act as if they're the more intelligent, educated, and wise bloc but they are literally doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. They may be right, they may be on the moral high ground, but none of that matters when the GOAL is to run a government. And the more the democrats don't change and just double down on trying to do things that seem subversive, the less chance they'll be able to gain control of the government through legal means.

Maybe try acting like a man who didn't invade Poland, didn't set up concentration and death camps for undesirables in society, didn't bomb London, didn't annex France, didn't invade Russia is Hitler. I'm not saying Trump is a good president, but it takes a cursory understanding of US history to realize that you can't call him the worst president in history starting on January 21st 2016. Or even today. He's not even the most corrupt president in US history by the numbers, even with the egregious crypto scam. Like just live in the real world and all the non-MAGA GOP voters will flock to the Democratic party. Or they would have. It may be too late. I'm afraid that the Democratic party has cemented the GOP power bloc for another like 4 voting cycles. Literally the only thing the Dems have going for them is they condemn Israel on the whole Gaza thing. But they literally do it in the only way possible that make them seem dumb as fuck. On one hand they'll speak out against Israel actions in Gaza and at the same time cater to AIPAC and the ADL and enable laws that make their criticisms illegal (not to mention acting like promoting Islam is compatible with being pro LGBTQ). The only meaningful push back against AIPAC and friends is coming from the GOP.

Canada also isn't known for having a fascistic govt that openly declares its intent to cheat in elections in order to cling to power.

I'd take a reasonably nerfed freedom of speech ala Canada's over whatever the fuck we have going on here.

Political speech is the most protected of speech.  I don't know what "professional speech" is, but I think you mean commercial speech.

I don't know what you mean by "serious consequences," but it sounds a lot like the beheadings of old.  In America, we don't have dictators, so punishing a man for being unable to convince 435 other people to keep his promise would be unjust.
