Psilocybe Zinnii official thread. * 7
    #29650468 -

I have not seen anyone else post this thread yet. Honestly, I can't find any info on this at all on here except one post introducing it.

I just received a spore swab and I'm going to be sending it to agar tonight. Not really worth taking any pics at the moment. It's spores on an agar plate 😂. The spores are from a F1 donor so this will be an F2 grow if I'm not mistaken in my generational sequence.

Here's some info on it.

Psilocybe × zinnii nom. prov. is an interspecies hybrid of Psilocybe pseudoaztecorum from tropical India and Psilocybe natalensis from South Africa. Out of the many crosses we developed in the lab, this particular (F1) isolate displays significant hybrid vigor. The spores of Psilocybe × zinnii are viable and create fertile offspring, it can sustain its own population, and is genetically and phenotypically distinct from each of its parents, allowing it the distinction of species.

Strain Origin: Interspecific hybrid of Psilocybe natalensis × Psilocybe pseudoaztecorum

Description:

Pileus (Cap): 1-5 cm in diameter; obtusely conic to hemispheric, then convex, often with an umbo, margin becomes undulate with age; at first tan to yellow, not hygraphanous, darker with age and lighter at the edges.

Lamellae (Gills): Brown, then dark purple-brown; edges often white.

Stipe (Stem): 4-12 cm x 2-10 mm; white to yellowish; stipe initially enlarged at the pileus, which becomes a prominent median to superior bulge with age; no traces of a veil, staining blue-green, especially at the base.

Spore print: Dark purple-brown.

Microscopic Features
    Spores: (12.2) 12.7 - 14.3 (15.5) × (7.6) 8 - 9.2 (9.4) µm
    Basidia:
    Pleurocystidia:
    Cheilocystidia:

The DNA of this strain was extracted, put through a PCR and the ITS region amplified for testing. DNA confirmed the unique genetic profile.

Given the lab origins, I presume that when they say "nats" they mean true nats? Has anybody done potency testing? I know the true nats came in weaker than average.

Very excited to see some pics of this. Great thread.

I nabbed up a couple swabs too... normally I try and avoid impulse buying, but jumped on this a couple weeks back when I saw it. In a few weeks or so I'll throw it on agar and a tiny piece of swab on a BRF puck as backup. What are we thinking for substrate?

They do not say specifically, but in the description on their page, there is a link that takes me to true nats. I can only assume that based on the fact they have true nats and it is linked in the description that they used true nats to cross with the pseudoaztecorum.

As far as substrate, I'm going to run it with straight coir, and if that fails, I'll try coir+. I'll run a few tubs and use a casing layer probably of verm in one and no casing in another. You know throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks.

If I can get decent fruit and start to semi isolate the culture to something nice I'll share. I'll probably keep a few unstable spore prints or swabs to maybe get a few different phenos.

I have a swab of it myself that I’ll be putting to agar, possibly this weekend. Looks like an exciting grow.

They are True Nats cross with aztec. https://sporeworks.com/news.php#news_19

That’s one reason they are pumped about it, crazy potency that exceeds either of their genetic roots. Also supposedly grows like wildfire.

Ohhh I want in on the hype train. Best of luck everyone!!!!

Where did you get your spores/swaps from? Sporeswaps doesn't ship to my country D =

This is the first time I've seen pseudoaztecorum put in sect zapotecorum. I thought it was cubensae

That is a mistake. It is indeed Section Cubensae, not Zapotecorum. Good catch, I've submitted a correction ticket.

I’m still to this day confused about “true nats” vs ochras.

Most people are!

Most of what you see are ochres. Nats were hard to grow and not many people had true nats. The only way to really know would do a DNA sequence, imo.
