I put the lid on with the latches flipped up underneath and the mycelium started aggressively colonizing the surface.

Azures. I know they don't need grass/soil but I was expecting a typical hot/dry summer. The idea was to keep things hydrated to avoid constant wet/dry cycles.

El Niño flipped the script and we ended up with weekly torrential rains. I only saw temps above 100f one day this year. Last year it would stay that way for weeks.

Question, is it notoriously hard to grow P Azurescens indoors? I may just do the spawn to grain and put in my wood chip pile, but I really hate to waste all of this lovely liquid culture not being able to fruit indoors. From all I have read it is the microclimate of the PNW that makes these things take off and thrive along with the cold shock to make them fruit

Does the slugs eat your woodlovers? I have a lot of them in my little garden and they ate all gourmet before they were ready to harvest. But I read that psylocibine mess up with slugs, and it is a protection mechanism.

You learn really quick with freebie outdoor fruits, pull them fast, or they will be attacked no doubt.  You can pull some cool fruits from spent blocks, always makes me smile when I'm done with something, and it's NOT finished giving up the gold.

When the season begins, I recommend immediately going around your garden with these iron oxygen pellets. Sluggo in the US. When Slugs eat them their appetite stops and they die from no longer eating. I wish there was a better way but this is the fastest way to deal with the problem. I treat a whole area around my patches as well.

I've tried most of the available tricks in the book. Nematodes, expensive and stinky. Cutting them and discarding (because dead Slugs work even better than beer traps to attract more slugs 😉).

With this solution 99% of the problem is gone after 2 nights. Not taking action if you have Slugs is out of the question if you want to end up with some pristine mushrooms ime.

Thank I already have it, just haven't used it yet. I was thinking about nematodes but if it is enough I'll stick with it. Just haven't done research yet about toxicity of iron oxygen for the environment.

I use sluggo as well, when I first moved into this house, I went outside early in the morning one day and it was like a snail convention on my lawn, populations were out of control.  Not so much anymore, those iron phosphate wheat smelling pellets WORK... and Fast!

"The most quoted line in permaculture is Bill Mollison's "you don't have a slug problem, you have a duck deficiency" (Introduction to Permaculture, 1991). It sounds like a joke. It is also a working pest-control strategy that a 2012 to 2013 SARE-funded New York trial documented in the field: a flock of about 50 ducks rotated through mushroom yards produced "significantly better" mushroom quality and "almost zero observable slug damage" in the duck-grazed sections."


I have never used sluggo, (yet), but slugs are definitely a force to be reckoned with.  IME you can get some pristine fruits without intervening, but many of them will be partly eaten and some decapitated etc.  only some are pristine but that's okay with me.  when there are more mushrooms than the slugs can get to, it helps.  "give me spots on my apples" 





Also, slugs prefer King stropharia, and oysters!  King stropharia is great to have around as an offering, it fruits spring and fall, and they will not stay and linger around psilocybes, while there are dozens on a single stropharia. 
Usually they take bites of psilocybes like
(not a woodlover, this is Pan bisporus)

then they're like
whoah.

and then they leave and go eat tastier mushrooms nearby.




some spots here and there are fine with me, although it can get gruesome, and I have left many dozen fruits out to let the slugs have their way with those.

A duck deficiency, that's hilarious, if I had a farm, I would surely have a duck pond, stocked fish, OH YEAH sounds like good times to me.

Haha, I live in a flat in a big city, but I have a small garden where I have my shrooms. Unfortunately it's not big enough to have ducks, and my neighbours would probably kill me if I have them;

Some new pics of my Ps. cyanescens 'Ballard' patch.
Again it got completely digged by boars.
I have added about 15 quarts of freshly colonized woodchips and covered it with soaked woodchips again.
This time i have also added a wire mesh to keep the boars away.
Will put some more soaked chips and leaves on top of the mesh to carmouflage the patch.

My Ps. azurescens 'Astoria Ossip' patch also got banged by boars, but not as terrible as the cyan patch.
They are everywhere in that area and they are quite agressive. I almost got attacked by one while checking my patches.
A friend who is a hunter gave the me the advice to pee next to the patches to scare them away.

Two weeks ago i finally tried my cyanescens fruits i had harvested last year.
My bodyweight is about 65 kg and i took 2 grams dry.
It was an extremely deep and very visual trip. My whole apartment looked like a mysterious castle. Behind my closed eyes i got visuals like i never had before. Three-dimensional objecs like an turquoise peacock and cubes with faces on it appeared. It was one of the most colorful trips i have ever had. Looking forward to try the azures as soon as they produce fruits. :heart:

Hi bro, yes, you can grow Azur indoors. This winter I got three waves from one monotube on the balcony, and a couple of mushrooms grew in the fridge too. But the monotube on the balcony had better ventilation, so I managed to get about 40 grams of dry mushrooms. I'm using a translator because I don't speak English, so sorry for any mistakes in the text. I'll try to post a grow report on the Azur here on Shroomery in the next couple of weeks.

I'll publish a grow report later with all the details. Ideally, find a spot on a balcony, garage, or basement that's unheated and will stay between 7-15 degrees Celsius in winter. I prepared the grain covered in azure in advance; it had been sitting in the refrigerator since last winter, biding its time. In September, I mixed the grain with wood chips in a monotube. By November, everything was covered, and the first pins appeared in early January. I harvested the first wave in February.
