Last night I posted a thread on colonization, and another Q came up on weather fermentation was possible when the substrate is near 100%. Anyone have any info on this. Sorry for all the poo-posts, but I'm getting excited; probably more than I should over poo.

i would think if you are near 100% then don't worry about fermentation. its ok to get excited as long as you don't cream in your pants. good luck peace

I think you will be ok, you just have to be patient about this. I have a simliar issue myself but I know all I can do is wait and see.
I have some Poo colonizing right now and am a bit paranoid of fermentation. I pasteurized a few pounds and then let it cool for a while when it was drying.
Then after it cooled I mixed it up with some poo that was almost fully colonized, then put it away. The freshly pasteurized poo wasn't cooled all the way, it was warm but not hot. It got cooled down when I was mixing it. I checked the temperature later that day and saw it was 93 degrees... I knew this couldn't be good so I put ice all around it... the next day (today) I saw the temp was around 78-80 degrees. I can't help but think its gonna start pasteurizing. My room is 72 degrees but these casings are putting out so much heat. I just hope it does its thing with no troubles.
On a side note... I didn't use the all of the pasteurized shit. The rest I kept in the pillow case then threw that into a garbage bag and tied it up for later use. This was a lot hotter then what I mixed in because I didn't break it up in open air and mix it will any spawn. Today I opened the bag, and it smelled pretty damn bad. Thought it may be fermentation but can't be sure... but it definitely wasn't "earthy" like how it was before.

Gatorade, just keep it cool like you are doing. I am starting to think heat is a big contributor to fermentation, and high spawn rates lead to a lot of heat. If the center gets over 90F, you are in the danger zone in my opinion.

Yea I'm just a bit paranoid... I cranked the AC and put some ice around it. Its at a steady 75 degrees now.
If it started to ferment a little, then tempretures dropped enough to stop, could it be saved? Or is it once it starts to ferment its over no matter how far the fermentation goes?

I have a casing that was 100% colonized on the outside.. I cased it.. and incubated it for just one day to help colonize the casing and it fermented. I have it in the FC now.. I think it may recover and fruit... It doesn't smell as sweet as it did before.
