Fermentation is contamination. . .bacteria ferment, producing various stinky by-products we all know so well.
Do you mean something else? Sometimes mycelium will begin to outcompete the bacteria, but it's not necessarily advisable to use them. Depends a lot on the degree of infection and vigor of the culture.
Is that any help?

somewhat yes. if a casing no longer smells of fermentation but of clean myc and has grown very healthily after crubling and all is going just fine, it is prob safe to say the myc has won but im not sure if the mushrooms would be safe to consume. i really kinda meant fermentation and non-fermenting contam, but i guess i wasnt very clear. im assuming i should trash this casing right? im for sure not spawning after really examining the new jars under question.

I believe it would be safer if you toss the casing.
Bacteria produces toxins, even if bacteria dies, the toxins might still be present and carried to the fruit bodies.
Sometimes it depends on the extent of the contamination, but normally it's a toss option.
