I guess ill reduce it even more but on the dreamer thread he says he runs the same fan as mine for 24/7 and it doesnt dry out his surface.

I also have seed heating pads under the trays outside the tub. The trays are on racks so they dont touch the bottom of the tub. Do you think those heat pads are causing surface drying too?

So I grew some Alabama a couple months back. A friend and his wife eat like 10-15g of cubes usually so I gave him 5.5g of the pans for them to try out.

Dude ate the whole bag. The review was basically “awesome for an hour then not awesome for 5 more. Definitely a mistake.”

Agreed, nice flush, nice caps and stipe, don't change a DAMN thing. I can tell you I haven't been doing good with lower spawn rates, not horrible, but not what I'm looking for either.  I went back to a bit higher, we shall see, but yeah, LITFO comes to mind right away.

Point taken. Guess this is a "my lobster is too buttery" sort of deal so I'll stick to trying to replicate the same process 🫡

I also had a similar issue as mojave with my first pan attempt a couple weeks ago. Amusing but jeeze harvesting was kind of a pain. I spawned at 1:2 ratio with 50:50 manure:coir + I think additional ~4% of total volume worm castings. I had planned on 2% but I ADHD'ed and am pretty sure I added it twice lol. I also packed the trays pretty firmly and it sounds like that is not what most people are doing with pans.

Next time I was going to go closer to 1:3 spawn:sub, 2% worm castings, not pack it down and see where that goes. Does that seem like a reasonable thing to try? Or just stick to one change at a time?

Ha, I’m not sure I’d call it an issue. After all, I’m not complaining. Just nitpicking, optimizing. Going for high scores, one could say. Keeps me from getting bored.

Anywho, if you want to optimize away from smaller fruits I’d certainly make your sub less nutritious. And examine your environmental conditions (I am naive to your setup and climate) which may assist in getting where you want them to be.

A cabin sequester is to make a square or circle cut out of colonized mycelium on agar

. And transfer it to a new plate which u cut a hole or square in the center about the same size maby a touch bigger than the transfer piece.

From there you have 2 options to make it a CABIN. Most people use glass slides or something similar or you can make the roof for your cabin out of agar evin if u want to. U just have to have a roof (agar or glass slant or plastic or something over your cabin to force bacteria and molds to stay in place n the mycelium will expand outwards out of the cabin leaving all potential contams in the cabin

n outside of the cabin should be super clean mycelium superior to if u tryed to clean up dirty mycelium on antibiotic agar which can also create antibiotic resistant bacterias or molds so...

Cabin sequester is superior all around n safer in my eyes :coolcat:

Thanks, ya that's kind of what I'm after here too. The fun for me is developing an understanding of what these guys need and how they respond to different changes.

Climate for this batch was rough. We had a mega heatwave and humidity swings from teens to 70%+ rh outside, plus our house is cooled by a swamp cooler which added to the humidity swings inside. I was aiming for cycling rh between near saturation and low 80s inside the tent a few times an hour (via a total of 1-2 air exchanges per hour by volume) but I frequently over/undershot in both directions as weather did its thing.

I know the struggle, I don't normally grow this time of year it's so rough, so learning curve always with horrible ambient conditions.  Tent growers are used to minor adjustments and dialing in their environment, but it affects tubs too, in horrible conditions, I had to soak the casing (12ml syringe/blunt tip) more than people normally would, and counter with air for tubs to develop fruits.  "Where there is a will... there is a way".

Do all you guys just use the glass slide ‘covers’?  What does “pre-cleaned” mean?  Do they come sterile or do you pc them?  I never tried with a roof but did this:

I pack individual slides in foil and sterilize them in a PP5 container when I pc agar. It's true I prefer a glass roof, but I have used agar as roofs and so have many others with good results.

The method in your picture is a trench and also works, but I think cabins are better.

Happy to help, also saw Scemilope use these small glass mosaic tiles as roofs. I have to cut my slides in half which can be a PITA.
