But it's not so effective at the arbitrary %'s Trump was using, on things that we already stopped manufacturing. Then people still buy the imports.

And technically automakers could still out-compete BYD at a 75% tariff, but since Biden extended their shield an extra 25%, they took the opportunity to raise their prices ~20% to maximize profit at the same competitiveness.

Sure would be simpler if the state owned production and didn't try to price gouge or move jobs overseas. Corporations were never going to take losses to move back here.
