Better to report trolling and move on, than taking the bait imo.

Anything that goes against the consensus of the sub is trolling!

You are derailing a thread. And there's already space for you to talk about your attachment to prepackaged rice bags.

Thanks for understanding.

I hate that Chrx fella but I’d be curious if there’s a much simpler way to accomplish this tech that doesn’t require a pressure cooker… perhaps a pre made, sealed and sterile food product… anyone know of any?? There’s gotta be something that would work!! Rice, perhaps?

Hi, do you guys think is possible to make pf cakes with coir instead of vermiculite? For me is much easier to get and cheaper. I understand both serve the same purpose?
Thanks!

Thanks.
Yes, my plan is to use it for the cakes, not just the casing. I haven´t heard anyone doing it. But I don´t know why it shouldn´t work. I am tempted to try, but maybe is a silly idea¿?

I believe dry vermiculite is contamination resistant in a way that hydrydated coir would not be. That top layer of verm under the lid is added security. Deviate from the tek at your own risk.

Coir is also pretty nutrient void and contam resistant though it is also rougher and more porous so spores have a harder time germinating on it (not entirely sure just opinion/observation

Question:
The Tek says you can follow CBK's bottom watering method.

Can I use the Water Tub Method plus CBK's bottom watering method? Or is that too much water?

I'm thinking water tub method then placing the cakes in a mason jar lid while they sit on the rack to bottom water. Is that pointless with the water tub method and should I just place them on the rack?

You can (and should) do both! After you've dunked-and-rolled, get the cake on a dish (lid) in the water tub. Let it do its thing, the myc will reach out over the coir or verm you coated the cake with, and eventually pin. Once the pins get going, bottom water as you wish. You can really do it anytime, just don't leave the cake sitting in water. If after a coup-few hours there's still some, dump it.

Cakes can pump out a surprising amount of fruits, but they are limited on water, give those boys a drink!
