PF Tek - Tape On Holes Question

Yeah, my spore syringe came yesterday. I will soon be using the PF Tek guide. The only thing I am not sure on is if I am suspossed to keep on the tape over the inoculation holes while the growing medium is still in the jar. Can anyone with experience with the PF Tek help me on this? Thanks.

Take the tape off, the cakes have to be able to breath and CO2 has to be able to leak out. After there is growth in the jar, it helps to flip them upside down so the CO2 can leak out.

For best results:
Leave the tape on. while steralizing and after innoculation.
Make sure that lids are flipped. When they are about half done
remove the tape and flip the jars. When the sides are done
and you're waiting on the bottom, thump the jar on something
and make the cake seperate from the glass. Loosen the lid if
you want. I tape my band to my lid so that the glass lifts up
a bit when I loosen it.
Not in the right order but, When you pull your syringe out, jiggle
the jar a little so that the little tunnel in the verm that  the needle
makes, will cave in.
Believe me, I've tried it several different ways just to find out.

a friend finds the use of any tape to be an unnecessary pain in the ass. with a verm barrier used in the straight PF tek, the only purpose of the tape is to keep water out of the jars. this can easily be accomplished with a good layer of foil or two. he never uses tape anymore when doing PF Tek and has not had any problems with contams.

My understanding is that ,in the beginning, the tape is to
aid in co2 buildup. Which at that point, is a good thing.
From the PF Tek, Chapter 2
"After inoculation of the jars, tighten the lid bands and retape the needle holes"
From MMGG (Magic Mushroom Growers Guide)
Adaptation 7: More Oxygen for Colonization
"The culture jars can be given more oxygen during colonization. This is done by inverting the jars so that the lid is down.
As the CO2 builds up, growth of the fungus slows down. Indeed, the mycelium benefits from increased CO2 during its vegetative growth stage, but eventually it gets too high for optimum growth. If you invert the jars, the CO2 can drain out and is replaced by fresh air. This will speed the colonization of the substrate"
Like I said, I tried it both ways.
Maybe you should too.

Thanks everyone. Basically, I should keep the tape on for awhile when the mycelium is growing, and for maybe the last week before the cake comes out of the jar, keep the tape off? Thanks for your help.
