I agree, Semperviva is crazy fast on grains and they even beat Ochraceocentrata on grains. Both HVC and tres soles will colonise plates and grains at lighting speed and the HVC pins quite fast for me too. Pins to harvest takes over a month though and Tres Soles is supposedly slower than HVC but I'm not certain about that until I've had my first harvest from the shoeboxes I just spawned.

If i'm going to be casing these with coarse verm, do i need to be preparing it in any specific way or nah?

Just throw it on straight outta the bag. It feels excessive to sterilize or to pasturise a non nutritional casing which is being placed on top of a fully colonised substrate tbh. I just cased a few boxes like this a couple of hours ago:awesome:

Like bluespirit said I just slap in on there dry then I mist it quite heavily to soak it up. It's harder to distribute soaked coir so just give it a good misting after application and keep an eye on the surface conditions.

And honestly Semps are not hard at all (imo) they're much easier than cubes if you ask me since they seem to have an incredible contamination resistance and I haven't had such a crazy good success rate with any other species as I have with Semps. Even my failed attempts have produced several flushes.

Really? Even my Franken tray got 4 or 5 flushes after trich hit it during the first flush and I've only had one more box out of quite a few go green on me and that one produced a nice flush anyways. Perhaps it's a shit load of luck giving me this result but that'd have to be some massive luck since I've been failing other ones alongside the Semps including Ochras which usually have an incredible resistance as well.

I'm just surprised that's the case tbh. Perhaps I got lucky with the HVC genetics kloakk sent me (I can't recall many struggling with these) or something but to me it has been smooth sailing since I started with these and that's all I'm saying. Semperviva Tres Soles also seems to be doing as good as the HVC as far as colonising grains and substrate goes, I can't speak for fruits yet though but I'll be casing the boxes this weekend so hopefully sometime relatively soon I'll know how it went.

Ooh right... I forgot about that but it doesn't change my point because it's definitely not me being super skilled with Semps I just find them to be ridiculously forgiving to grow so I must be having some good luck somewhere since experienced growers struggle with these and I don't do anything fancy at all with them, just the bare minimum tbh.

I don't think it's so much the species as the environment. Most of the cultivators here lives in a more hostile environment then some of us. I have seen exceptional good growers just get fucked when summer arrives, and some even have summer year around.

You and me probably have a lot less sporesload, less hostile species, less insects and our summers are short and winters long. That said, if you get a clean culture to sterile grains, semps are as easy as clean cubes, where we live :strokebeard:

Well you say that while im here throwing green shoeboxes away one after another :hehehe:. Last attempt looks to be triching out today for me. My jars looked fine and smelled good, I went back to the print after last attempt and it looked fine so idk. Something is up thats for sure. I think next step is to do some sterilized half pint AIO jars and just try to fruit straight from the jar. That should give me the least amount of variables to deal with. Oh well, at least I wont get bored :rofl:

Contaminants are killing me since Spring. All the windows were open and surfaces were covered with pollen. Now the air conditioning is on and everything that blew in is being recirculated. I got rid of the fungus gnats when I moved the overwintering plants out but just swapped one problem for another.
Disco, I’ve had good success with PF cakes. What are you inoculating with?

I have gone the standard route of agar to grain to bucket tek coir substrate until now. Previously (1-2 months ago) TCO helped me identify that I had some mold enmeshed in my tub and I think I also saw it (under a microscope) in the agar plates I used so I went back to the prints. Same story now, so I'm wondering if its something else, or if it's the print that got some contams or whatever. I havent had any trouble using the same coir or process with cubes and ochra so i'm a bit stumped. Spring also hasnt helped me here, but I should have inoculated it before everything woke up properly.

I will take a break over the summer anyway as temps are getting a bit too high to try and experiment too much. I havent done any PF-tek before so thats off the table for me for now. I think I will just sterilize some hydrated coir and grains and inoculate it with an agar wedge in the SAB. Then in my head the only vectors should be the cleanliness of the agar, the wedge transfer and the pressure cooking of the sub. And I dont have to break it up when it comes to fruiting it.

I'm doing the same procedure with some TTBVI as of now following treefrogs AIO writeup, and pins are starting to pop up so i'm at least getting some exotics under my belt :lol:. Seems to work good with my setup.

Oh man, so sorry to hear it :sad:

I do believe both you and Mackload got a print from me and he's been having trouble too, but I think he has tried a different print from another member as well. I've sent out a lot of subtrops prints though.

As you said, it's to warm right now, but I'll try growing out one of my prints come fall, and I used one print to make pf cakes and it fruited fine. Let me know if you want a new print :rockon:
