I'd like to share something amazing with you all today and I think it will revolutionaze the at home growers Tek overall, this is where we start to understand the power of nature and synergy.

During a deep experience with 10 dry grams of Albino A+, I understood that everything has its purpose, its place, and its reason. I went to the void and was brought back to see the light of the truth. Since then, my brain has been working hard to translate that into cultivation.

We spend so much time optimizing nutrition, isolation, and surface conditions. But we are still ignoring one of nature's most potent triggers: Electricity.

I'm not inventing this, I'm adapting it for the home cultivator.

Industrial agriculture in Japan has documented that high-voltage electrical stimulation can double yields in Lentinula edodes (Shiitake).

As I like to say everything has its time and it's place, it's purpose and it's flow and if nature uses lightning strikes as a catastrophic stress signal why can't I gosh dang it!

I also want to force the mycelial network into immediate, aggressive reproduction (fruiting) to ensure survival, be that thunderbolt and control when my spawn pins!

My Hypothesis I believe Psilocybe cubensis shares this evolutionary trigger, why? Because the trigger is a genetic adaptation that almost all mushrooms have!

By applying a precise, high-voltage, low-amperage "shock" to the substrate block prior to the first flush, we can force the network to fruit all at once rather than in waves. This is about forcing biology to perform through applied physics.

The "Jona's Volt Tek" Theory mimic how industrial Japanese studies used 50kV to 100kV but in the comfort of your home

They were shocking hardwood logs that were 1 meter long, and we are gonna shock a monotube

To find the right voltage for a home tub, I looked at Electric Field Strength (E), not just raw voltage. To achieve that same "shock" intensity (100kV/m) across a smaller, 0.1m gap in a tub, the math scales down.

Target Voltage: 10,000V - 15,000V (10kV - 15kV)

10kV sounds scary, but at low amperage, it is "static shock" territory, not "electric chair" territory.

Why not a car battery (12V)? It is too weak to penetrate the cell walls and trigger the hydrophobin release.

You need the "thump" of high voltage to rupture the old hyphae.

I saw thump because we don't want a ongoing current to the cake nooooo continuous current creates heat and electrolysis, which kills mycelium.

We need Pulsed Power (nanosecond bursts).

Funny enough, this specific voltage range (10kV–15kV) is exactly what a standard Piezoelectric Igniter (from a BBQ lighter or kitchen clicker) outputs.

When you click it, a crystal is struck, generating a brief nanosecond pulse of ~15kV without the heat.

Here is the method I am testing: Tools: Two sterile metal probes (stainless steel chopsticks or knitting needles) and a Piezo igniter.

Setup: Insert probes into the cake, about 6 inches apart.

Dosage: Connect the Piezo igniter to the probes.

Action: Click it 1–3 times.

Timing: 24 hours before introducing fruiting conditions (fresh air)

This gives the network the 15kV spike needed to replicate the "lightning strike" without frying your house or your mushrooms.

Next Steps Starting next quarter, I will be moving beyond chemical innovation (Jona’s 50:1) into physical stimulation.

Phase 1: Establishing safety parameters.

Phase 2: Controlled side-by-side bioassays (Shocked vs. Control tubs).

Phase 3: Developing a protocol anyone can replicate.

Very interesting as I have often wondered if applying a low current low wattage application of electricity would aid cultivation.

Wonder no more, I'm 3 months away from making the experiment, I'll keep everyone posted but I'd like to hear your opinions on this specifically from advanced growers or even in mycologist

I think it's an interesting idea, though I did see this post on Reddit and looked at some of the research.  It's all been done on woodlovers.

But that doesn't mean it can't work for poo and grass loving species.

Anyway, when you do run this run controls.  Use isolates or clones.  And do at least like four tubs.  Two controls and two experimental.  More is better but four is about the minimum to get any useful data.

Just a lighter is enough? Iv'e been zapping my finger with it sometimes and nothing special happened that I noticed.

Seems low for a full tub? Are you sure that the current penetrates more than a few millimeters.

Mushrooms that live with trees like shiitake, might have a very different relationship with electricity than mushrooms that live in poop.  And wood likely has different conductivity than a cube substrate.

Not to discourage OPs experiment.  Just saying the experiments in the Asian papers all are on wood lovers.

Yes understood, but when you grow more mushrooms than you can do anything with....
Lots of time for weird experiments. And we'll never find out until someone tries :laugh:

I have been aware of this theory for a while now, and have been curious.
Personally, I have just bought the tesla coil. they output 50-100kv.

If a tub is stalled, another good reason to experiment with little consequences.

I'm going to try just hitting the surface substrate with the arc, and also attaching probes to
push deeper into the substrate.
I wont be able to control pulse length, but OP is going to do that anyway by the looks of things.

If nothing else, We'll prove just one more way to NOT induce fruiting coir lovers.

Oh I love experiments.  Been using grass and microbes to fruit difficult pans for awhile.

And even started a FAFO thread in mush cult!

Just trying to temper expectations is all.  Both for anyone currently wanting to try it, and for posterity when someone finds this thread in the future.

Well There are no expectations, other than to prove or dis-prove. And so far its looking like dis-proving for the Tesla coil.
after a stalled tub for over 30 days, I hit the substrate surface with the tesla coil. Moving it all over the surface about 1cm above. the arc dancing over the entire substrate. Then penetrating the substrate with the sanitized arc probe about 2cm deep. 2 weeks later, still no signs of pins.

The Tesla coil is "rated" (not measured) at between 10kv to 50kv. I had it turned up to full power.

One experiment is not proof. But my results are, that there is no effect.

I tried this a few years ago after reading the same papers. The zapped tub got Trich while the control tub remained unaffected. After looking into possible causes I found out that Trich spores can sense the presence of other fungi in the soil by detecting the substances they exude like VOCs, digestive enzymes and cell wall fragments from damaged hyphae and they use them as a trigger to germinate and attack the competitor species. So by zapping the sub the damaged hyphae likely caused dormant or air borne Trich spores that had landed on the surface of the sub to germinate and feast on the tub.

So I got to thinking that maybe it wasn't just the lightning element in a thunderstorm that got fungi to fruit. Clearly fruiting following a thunderstorm would be advantageous due to the abundant water and humidity that comes with the rains that accompany them and by sensing approaching thunderstorms or indeed the approaching rainy season the mycelium could be triggered to start primordia formation in advance of its arrival. Mycelium can sense electrical fields which intensify as an electrical storm approaches and the powerful vibrations the sound of the thunder produces in the soil. So I started playing a thunderstorm app through a bluetooth speaker for an hour or so a day in my fruiting room for a while but never got round to doing a proper experiment with a control to properly gauge any effect.

Similarly, the electrical field of the air and soil intensifies before and during thunderstorms. Is the natural electrical charge of plastic tubs helping or hindering? Would earthing the tub as part of putting tubs into fruiting conditions help? Would earthing the sub but not the tub have any effect? Plenty of things there that can be easily investigated at home with minimal equipment.

Definitely try the zapping experiment yourself though as I only ran the experiment once. And in light of what happened to mine it's probably a good idea to use your smallest tubs for the experiment.
