    #1569619 - 05/22/03 02:45 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

I bet ur wondering y i would even try this but im gonna give it a shot. too start off with im useing a malabar culture and am slightly new yet ive read most of the shroomery. i used 1 1/3 cup verm and 1/2 cup BRF and 1/2 cup h2o and put them in a 1pint jar then i took quite a lot of Mycelium cultured (honney h2o2 bird seed water) and pored it in, the culture was allmost white  soo it should go fast
so far i havent PC any materals and i have 0 contams.

been 2 days 0000.0000% contams and i can see it going allready

Um.. I don't believe this belongs in advanced, but maybe..

I don't think this will work. Been 2 days and nothing you can see as far as contamination, but it's probably there.

Sorry to break the news, that's gonna fail.

Who knows?  Mycomasters talked about doing thigs like this, without a pressure cooker, but I'm not sure the specifics; I never read the book.  Might be something to check out, though.

How much H2O2 did you add?  2 days is way too early to tell anything, but post your results once you find some data.  Might not work, but hey -- we all learn from stuff like this, regardless, and you never know -- it may work, too.

You mean it's stalled? cuz if so, that's no surprise. There's probably all sorts of bacteria in there that can take hold much quicker than myc. given the proper conditions.

LIme mixed with the substrate would give you 2 weeks b4 contams kicked in... maybe enough time to colonize fully..

Umm.. yah, you didn't sterilize. The mycelium did not recoil and go dormant - a competitive bacteria or mold had already taken over and eaten out the middle of your cake, and there was no where left for the mycelium to grow.

As far as your questions are concerned, your english is very bad and you didn't supply enough details. Are the MMGG and millet jars also unsterilized? If so, toss them too, they will not colonize completely if at all.

If they ARE sterilized: If they don't 'look' like they have enough water, then wait. If the myceilum growth stalls, add a small amount of sterile water to the jars. I'd say around 5-8CCs.

No clue what the hell you are talking about. If you mean you want to put honey water into your computer, then no, that would probably cause problems. What do you mean by comp? Compete? If the jars weren't sterilized, then they will fail and you would be wasting inoculant. If they were sterilized, and they are stalled, they could still be contaminated, in which case you would be wasting inoculant. If they stall completely for a period of time, take a tiny (TINY) smell of the jar. If there's any odd smells, toss it.

I hope you learned from this 'experiment.' You simply cannot grow cubensis without sterile technique unless it is done outside, and even then you must be sterile in order to generate spawn.

well, since your experiment is done, and i highly doubt anyone will have any suggestions other than sterilize next time. I'm going to close this.
