Got a really light print from mescaleroensis but I can't get a pic of it to save my life lol.

On other fronts..

Psilocybe hoogshagenii
5 months and almost ready to do something with. Seems to know Spring is in full swing. Maybe it will be aggressive enough to spawn in another month.

Sorry lol. I meant the knots. Sure is a lot of them.

Welp. My mescaleroensis LC is fucky.
Gonna have to make another. Still plenty on agar to work with though. Just going to be a while.
This looks like a possible bacillus and it doesn't seem to really be bothering mescaleroensis much lol. But at some point that's going to stall. I think I'll let it go a little longer and put it to chips outside again. We'll see what happens.

I take it back.

Psilocybe mescaleroensis vs bacteria

Mescaleroensis says fuck that bacteria. :crankey:

Still going to chips outside but wow. Didn't expect that. I think they are both going to fully colonize.

I wouldn't say all wood lovers. Section cyanescens is pretty ruthless. Section aztecorum is as well.. but others like section semilanceatae, stuntzae, cordisporae and hopii are definitely more sensitive and particular as to what they grow on. Good news is all Psilocybes fruit on grain or grass seed and I think mescaleroensis has proved that to be the ticket for at least bragging rights.

So quick uestion how close are cyanesens and azuresence like can 2 spores hook up n mate? My azure is at least 3x more aggressive than my cyanescens and cyanesens is just as aggressive as my healthyest cube (think it was 24 days from lc to first flush blue meanies)  i doubt itl fruit as fast as cubes for obvious reasons though colonization b crazy 🀣

Not naturally. Might be possible with snake venom hybridization but that's a debatable method in general. Genetic modification would likely be the only way to find out.

Also, with all the new species being grown it might be a good time to start clearly defining the term wood lover. Is it capable of fruiting on chips? Which is generally what we think of. Semi decomposed wood in soil? Or mulch and grass species? Many species can grow mycelium on chips but it's far from an optimal fruiting environment. In my experience it also affects the longevity and stamina of a colony. I'm still debating on leaving mescaleroensis on chips and really considering a mix of straw or dead grass with the fir. Probably a soil topping as well. There's also a lot of pine in their natural environment so I'm thinking about grabbing some next time I'm near some. There's not much here on the island but there are some patches on the mainland. Pretty sure I'll be driving near some next week. I'm still leaning on the grass or straw being more important though. Sorry for the ramble lol. Mostly thinking out loud.

Mushrooms

All the chips fallen off the trains literally n colonize n fruit right on the tracks chips only n water  I miss picking bags off da tracks lol

Well I guess I've technically fruited it twice now lol. Sure be nice if both weren't from pure neglect. The grain from this jar triched after spawning as predicted. That went outside in a pot so maybe I'll get lucky. The jar sat on the counter for about a week waiting to build up enough to justify doing the dishes. I think I actually did facepalm when I opened it.
At least I know the culture fruits. Next time I'm just going to top fruit a PF jar. That should do it. Might be a bit before I can get back to it.

In the meantime antioquiensis is starting to fruit. Not much to look at just yet but I'll grab some pics soon.

Nah, these are easy.

If you can grow subtropicalis or zapotecorum you can grow these. They're nothing new really. Just dropped off the map for a long time. Workman hooked me up again a while back. Pretty sure there's some history here somewhere. I know at least Workman, Sunny and myself have grown them. Probably several others too. It's kind of a subtropicalis history. Just a little behind that wave. I think we'll be seeing a lot more of this species after it's hibernation. People are going to like them.

Been growing some P. aucklandiae mycelium!

Isolated on MEA plates, then transferred to rye berries with some red alder chips mixed in. After about 4 weeks jars were about 1/3 colonized, then shook and then another 2 weeks to fully colonize. Aucklandiae were definitely slower than the subaeruginosa and cyanescens I had going at the same time.

After grain jars were fully colonized, I prepared 2 bags with finely chipped red alder chips. Chips came from trees on my property at Oregon coast that I sent through my wood chipper. One bag had some wheat bran mixed in, while the other bag had nothing extra added -- I wanted to see if there was any difference. Chips had been pasteurized in water (50-70F) for 3 weeks prior, dried a bit and then went straight into bags. I did not boil the chips. Chips were PC'd for 3 hrs. Each bag had 8 cups (4 pints) of alder chips and I mixed in 1.5 pints of spawn per bag.

Here are the alder chip bags after 6 days. I'm impressed with how well they aucklandiae are growing on the chips...so little information on what these things grow on and how well they do on pure wood chips. I don't see any difference between the bag with wheat bran and the one without.

Hopefully the bags fill out and then my plan is to send them outside at my property at the oregon coast. Having fun just messing around but any suggestions on how best to maximize fruit potential is most welcome!

Here are 3 phenos of  ps. section zapotecorum "NSW 02".
The first has an umbo and no veil.
The second has no umbo and veil remnants. Before the caps were covered with spores the difference was quite more apparent.
The third is just a chonker.

Psilocybe antioquiensis. Going to back off the misting a little. Split the stems.

Day seven since seeing the primordia.
