I'm already on it. Neither of them look any worse for me troubling them. In fact the APE's seems to be producing more pins. The one that is in the golden teacher bag is growing insanely fast but it looks like they can only grow around the sides, any idea how I can encourage growth across the whole substrate?

Well, since you got pins you can either just let it ride or you can pick the pins, dunk the cakes and apply 1-2cm of coir.

I'm embarrassed to say, I don't have a clue what "coir" is. I've heard mention of it plenty, in my research, but as it's not mentioned in either instructions, I didn't bother looking into it. I'm about to Google it now tho. You won't afta tell me twice. One of the most surprising things is how wrong the actual instructions that come with it are.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I am super happy with my purchase, and if needed I'll be getting some more, and I'll use the same people, they were really good. It's Amsterdam, and they were very Dutch and eager to help. I suppose it's general information for as many people in different places as possible. To be fair.
Apparently I should get 3/4 flushes, so I'm hoping for that, but I'm definitely going to carry on with my shroom tek, so I'll be looking for the best way to do it. Preferably a cheaper way than having to get a new bag every time.

I'll get some coir tomorrow, should I get any particular kind?

What are your options? Most coir is fine, but I have gotten some really bad coir when I bought a 5kg brick, a lot fibers.

I feel a bit silly cos I have been using it for many years, but have just known it as coco and I use it as soil. I have got plenty of this cana Coco. This specific type. I don't think it says coir on the packaging. But I was surprised when Google offered it up when I asked where to buy coir.
Will this be suitable, and if it is, what do I do with it, to begin what will be my second flush. The substrate in the golden Teacher looks dry and it's coming away from the side. I have found all the missing mushrooms. I was only seeing one, but I noticed a few growing within the substrate in the tub. What do I do with them, it's gonna mean breaking up the base. I'll post a pic but it's difficult to see under the bag, the water and the tub.

Yeah coco plus should do the trick.

When I set up for a second flush I like to rinse the cake and submerge it in water over night. Since you have a bag and tray I would try to use the coir in such a way that the tray is full, like all around and on top of the cake, same for the bag, but with the bag just add enough coir so it levels out about 1 cm above the cake. Put them back in the bags, mist the surface and LITFA

Ok, so after cleaning everything I will lift out the cake with a gloved hand, pull off all the shrooms, put it back in it's now clean tub, fil in any gaps and cover the top with a centimetre of Coco/coir. Then set up as was?
Just one thing I ain't sure of, won't the soil be riddled with contaminates?
It's just a bag of soil for growing dooe

I usually just rinse my cakes(in the shower with 15-20°C water) in the tray or tubs until no more substrate  is coming off. Then I plase a same sizes tub on top of the cake, weigh it down and let it soak over night, like this:

Canna Coco plus is just buffered coconut coir, not even close to soil, but yes it will be full of spores of other fungi, molds and whatnot, that doesn't matter, because so is the air in and outside the bags. Your cakes are fully colonized and any contaminates to take hold at this point is very rare and I wouldn't worry about it at all.

It's already sat in the bath soaking, I didn't know about putting sumert on top. I should probably say something, I am a proud Yorkshire man and I love words, but I imagine if you are not from North of the M25, you probably think I can't spell.
This is my first official harvest of Golden Teacher mushrooms. It's crazy cos the more I learnt, the less I thought I stood a chance. I never liked the look of this one too. But I am fully over the moon with it.
I remember someone saying they already knew I'd catch the "bug". They were bang right, getting the chance to kiss the sky is just a bonus of my new hobby. Probably cos they grow so quickly and look mad, you get really invested in em. Till it's time to nyam them.
Thank you for all the help, you know your shit, no doubt!
Smashed it!

Yo, I know I've said it before and you don't need me to tell you, you know your shit. But it's not often I'm genuinely impressed and well jell about next man's superior knowledge. Most of the time, it's just a question of me needing to study up, as I consider myself smarter than your average bear. But I doubt I would have your kinda knowledge had I studied mycology at Oxbridge and got a first.
You know better than the damn people I got it off. They reckon to not expect a second flush within a week and make no mention of a coir casing layer. I followed your advice and I have pins on day 2 of second flush and they're slap bang int middle of the tub. Excuse my language but  boo-fucking-yah! You da man!
If I could, I'd buy you a pint brother. I can't thank you enough. I was warned to not let inevitable failure put me off. Whoever told me that, obviously didn't know I had your advising me. Failure, what failure! Ha!

So this is where I'm at. The golden teacher is now my favourite. It's so very robust and easily pleased. Whereas my APE's are living up to their rep. For being tardy and temperamental. The close up of the bag are the same bag at exactly the same time, but from the other side. According to AI, one is probably contaminated and the other is perfectly healthy with a "nice fluffy white covering of", the right kinda stuff. I can't remember how she described it.
The weather has been absolutely crazy today so it's probably just the light. If it is a lost cause, I'm definitely gonna do another Ape, they're significantly stronger than the other stuff I've tried shroom wise. An I need to grow enough for the lads to experience it too. It's been a total success so I'm easy about this second flush, owt from now is just gravy.

I wasted half my very first harvest, cos I couldn't see past growing mushrooms. Lesson learnt, I've got a food dehydrator in the post. I'm already looking at my next one, I'm not a complete beginner anymore. There's a number of things I want to do differently
