I've ditched the mat completely. It seems perfectly happy without it. The temperature is definitely not at the 23°c the "optimal" temp in my instructions. But it didn't seem to be helping, I couldn't control the temperature and it seems to produce heat itself. I'm gonna keep an eye on it, and there's a flaw in my electric heater to get the entire room up to temp plan. It's a fan heater, so will blow air. Which I don't think is a good thing. So I'm gonna afta invest in a halogen heater, I think they're called. They're only 20 odd bar, but as I look today, in this mild wet, supposed winter. The bag is saying it's 20°c and it seems fine, so now I'm just gonna do the thing I knew I would be good at. Patience. I'm used to working in 4 weeks cycles too, so it's just a regular wednesday round here.
I'll keep you posted

Hey bro, I'm late to the welcome party but just wanted to say that you're on the right track.  As Kloakk said, head over to the confessional, introduce yourself, and get to know some people there.  This place is full of talented cultivators who are willing to help you without judgment.

I am super new to this also.  Don't let yourself be discouraged by "expense" or "skill level" when it comes to the Hitchhiker's Guide.  It is WAY easier and CHEAPER than you think, and starting with and getting successful germination on Agar is like a religious experience.  Totally worth the effort.

You got this!

I am just gonna leave it B now. Unless I see something worth noting, if it's fun guys or mould, good luck to it, after 3 weeks I'll get it back down, when the instructions say, "ventilate if you see no pins", to show you guys it, as I wunt know a pin if it was sticking outta my finger.
I can struggle with the colours dark blue and purple. But I am sure I see a dull goldie colour. It doesn't look like it's cooking anymore. It's still a bag of dirt to my eye. Any thoughts?

It's colonizing, just let it be, if all goes well the entire substrate should colonize in a couple of weeks or so. Don't open the bag without posting pictures here, mushrooms don't grow on a schedule and are ready for fruiting when everything is colonized

Well you just made my day! I was just explaining to my friend that I didn't expect it to work. And fully expected you guys to tell me it's a busted flush. The fact it's not a complete failure feels like a bit of a win. Especially when I think that, had I not come on here chatting my jeggeries, it'd be sat on a heat mat at 27°c cooking away. I'm still in the game! Exciting much!
It's a complete fluke, so thanks guys.

Hi guys. As much as I have been trying to leave it alone, I thought I'd have a quick squizz before I turn it in. Obviously I don't know what to look for. I can't help thinking it doesn't look very happy, whereas the other day, it looked like an at least not unhappy bag of dirt. If anyone is out there wants to cast an eye over my pics. It'd be greatly appreciated. It's night time, but I've established, my tablet has a much better camera than my phone.

Don't see anything too concerning, but better pictures would help :awesomenod:

Not that it's particularly meaningful, other than for my own personal moral, my bag of dirt looks not so unhappy in daylight. I think I see at least some "white fluffy" bits in there. There's also dark stuff in there too, which is confusing, cos I'm not sure what's the substrate is it, I don't wanna call it dirt, and what is the contamination that I've been assuming is inevitable.
Hope these pictures are more useful.

Not done a lot of bags so hopefully others can weigh in, but it looks fine from here.

Just let it ride, usually the mean green appears soon enough if there is trouble in paradise :muppet:

That's great news friend, it's been a tough day with the old man, spent most of it learning the hard way going shop to shop tryna find an old school landline phone for him. Which I couldn't. In store at least.
So the thought of it actually producing apes, even if it is unlikely, is exactly what I needed to hear
Cheers

Hw guys.
If anyone has a minute to cast there eye over my bag. It's the most action I've seen yet. There's definitely something happening in there. Which I cannot believe.
Thanks

Hi guys. After a rough old weekend, which I only had chance to have a quick squizz at my bag when poss. Tho it didn't look bad, it didn't look good and not much changed today is the day the instructions say, open the bag to let air in. Which I just did after a good scrub down.
I took the opportunity to snap a few pics.
I'm gonna guess it's not good news. Even with my colour deficiency, the grey is clear to see now, and can't be good. Help!

My golden teacher grow bag is in the country today, I'm tracking it closely. So if it's a lost cause, shouldn't I dash it an scrub down for my next swing?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see anything funky growing. The picture is a little too blurry to see surface conditions, but it doesn't look like there are any beads of water on the surface of the substrate.

That's great news, thank you very much, and I apologise for my crappy photos. To be fair it's the first time I've opened it since it came on the 19th, so it could have been that funky grey colour the whole time. Assuming it's actually grey, I'm not great on colours. But I'm a total novice. I've read an watched lots, they all say that apes take forever. I just don't wanna mash up my golden teachers, which is where I shudda started, but I'm happy to keep at it with these guys.
Cheers

They're not great photos but it's night time here. It looks fine and it's be 2 days shy of 3 weeks. The bag looks pretty dry, should I open an spray it? You guys have been really helpful, I don't wanna annoy anyone, and I appreciate it. I'm not sure but I'm thinking dry ain't good.

My new golden teachers too.
