Continuing additions while its killing you

when shit is so obviously bad, why do people continue to use?

i dont have an answer, although i know the feeling, so in my opinion its about the act of quiting, for smoking, i tried to quit a few times before i actually quit, but not enough times, i should have been trying to quit like every month, instead i may have only tried to quit maybe 1-2 times a year, the thought was always ill put it off till later, but later rarely came

now smoking has all sorts of harm reduction these days, nic vapes, snus, nicotine pouches, NRT, i dont think i would have got off smokes without using all that

Sometimes it too hard to fathom that you can get help. Many have the desire to stop. Also when you’re in the throws of addiction the shame of it all is enough to fuel the addiction and prevent one from getting help.

It feels like pure insanity when you cant stop and know something is killing you. Especially when youre on your hospital bed from said thing and all you can think about is getting it despite being told to your face youre experiencing liver failure. Being aware of it is hell in your own skin, feeling powerless to it makes you want to die. Its a cycle that feeds into itself over and over to the point you dont see a way out until one day you cant get out. Sadly a lot of us don't make it out and its a lifelong battle. I have no idea why addiction is as powerful in the brain as it is but it truly does freak me out at times.

why do people want to quit, but dont try to quit though? this was my problem, i already said it once but ill repeat it, i would not try to quit very often although i wanted to, it was always sometime later, at the end of this pack, or the end of the month or after xyz or w.e., then that time would roll around, and id open a new pack or w.e.

one thing i think 12 step gets right is it takes a "total psychic change" i just disagree how to get there

i quit kratom because i took modafinil, the modafinil just changed my brain and i was like oh i dont want to take kratom any more, well i didnt want to take kratom for a while,  but the modafinil put my head in a different space to make the jump

now how can you naturally change your whole perception and paradigm without external forces?

Ive tried to quit my drugs of choice multiple times only for it to come into the form of something else before bringing me back to the original drug of choice. The amount of times I had tried to put down the bottle and genuinely wanted to quit opiates in my heart was insane. It went on like that for years. I even just got sober recently from alcohol as yall remember for like 1 1/2 years but was just using kratom the whole time then it led to a full blown relapse. It might have been better on my body doing kratom but was not addressing the underlying cause why I want to pick up and use to begin with. Once again if we had the answer then addiction wouldn't be as deadly as it is. Just recently with nicotine it was the same deal. One by one though as I begin to work the steps from the time I entered the rooms thinking it was impossible im already doing what I couldn't do myself. I believe the core problem is lack of a spiritual practice to ones own understanding and a supportive community that understands what youre going through. Any other way I have tried to approach the problem has led me to homelessness and then eventually the hospital. I had never wanted to admit I was this kind of addict but it truly is a thing.

is a lack of spiritual solution every ones problem, or just the addict?

like what about irreligious straight edge bob down the street, does lack of spiritual practice effect him, maybe just in a different way?  maybe he chews his nails out of habit and has a negative attitude instead of snorts coke and we just dont see that or it dosnt negatively impact his life in a significant way

cause i dont have nor want a religious view, or rather cant conceive of a religious view of reality, i could try and describe my "spititual" view of the world, but youd probably tell me im describing schizophrenia

Spirituality and religion are two different things. Im not religious but I do practice spirituality. How its defined is in my own terms and that goes the same for anyone else. You dont even have to call it that word it just means that which is you that you do not see.



That's why it is to the individuals understanding, im in no way shape or form telling you what to do or saying I have anything figured out. I just am someone who is an addict that struggles with this and so I decided to share my perspective on it. I also believe the word spiritual takes on a lot of different meanings for different people and none of them are wrong. It is just what works for you.

My problem was my addictions were killing me, have killed me and caused me to become chronically homeless. so I dont really have an option at this point and ive tried lots of different methods on my own and this is just the one method now that has started working for me but that is not to say its the only way.



People focus too hard on the word spirituality. It doesnt exist outside of yourself it is literally all within you. You find answers by sitting with yourself. For example my take on spirituality is just awareness and that is my higher power.
