Hello everyone, this is agar that is probably too wet. I put ochra spores to it on Saturday in my SAB. Does that look like bacteria or does that look like mycelium?

seems fast, but with ochra maybe? but very hard to tell from blurry pics

That's what I tried to do when I made a casing layer but I ended up making enough to fill half a tub because I had to cut it with a saw. I guess I can scoop out 32 oz but should I add hot water to the vermiculte separately then combine I was going to add boiling water to both dry coir and verm then squeeze out to field capacity. I just don't think I can get the correct ratio of coir unless I did separate field capacity soaks.

Does everything look okay with my tub?

Looks good to me, the right side near the edge looks a little dry, but that may just be the lighting.

On a separate note! My man! Your presence has been summoned over at the noob of the moment! :mushroom2: I think you may have been MIA at the time but you were the nomination before the current

We await your arrival to celebrate you :mushroom2:

Thank you!

And wow! I’ve been in a bit of a rut after my birthday and have been trying to figure some stuff out - leading to me not being able to pour as much love into the art as I’ve wanted - so I knew I had quite a bit to catch up on and read but never expected to be nominated, thank you again for the advice and the news:eek:

I used a chisel to separate and break apart the brick to get roughly how much I wanted. Then poured boiling water on it and let it sit and absorb it. Then I measured how much I had after squeezing out the excess water.

First time using brown rice and coco coir, wondering on a casing layer. Do I use the coir or vermiculite and how thick should it be (sorry, two questions I guess).

Looks fuckin sexy

And I have three more. As long as I don't fuck it up now.

Decided to do one with coir casing, one with vermiculite and two just as they are. We will see how things go.

If this is cubensis, you dont need to bother with it. If you wanna do it anyway though, add enough to cover the myc, or 1/4" if you need a more quantitive amount to eye.

Vermiculite makes more sense to me than coir, but that is backed up by nothing but my gut and should be taken for the opinion that it is.

Well, for what it's worth, my gut tells me that I never want to buy another bag of vermiculite for as long as I live

How do you make small amount of coco coir? I was trying to get 32oz of coir I was going to do 32oz coir 32 oz grade 3 vermiculte 32 oz grain spawn and .4 cup of gypsum. I got a 96oz food storage container im trying to fruit in my jar is 80% done it looks good so far. I think CVG has a better success rate than if I use manure my chance of mold is lower this way.

Heres a fahts write up.

Prepping ~1 quart of coir/verm

And one from roscoe

Coir prep is easy when you have the right ratio. Different brands of coir can hold different amounts of water, so it helps to figure out the ratio for your coir.

Coir ratios are based on the dry weight of coir to the weight of water. (side note: 1 gram water = 1 milliliter water, so you could also use volume measurements for your water if you don't want to weigh it, or if your scale caps out at like 100 grams.)

To find your ratio I would do some small side-by-side tests:

1:3.75 ratio - 50g coir & 187.5g/ml water

1:4 - 50g coir & 200g/ml water

1:4.25 - 50g coir & 212.5g/ml water

1:4.5 - 50g coir & 225g/ml water

See which ratio gets you closest to field capacity. Then measure how much volume 50g coir makes. Let's say it makes 1qt, now you know that 200g makes 4qt. Scale up and down as needed for the size of your tub.

I've never prepped small amounts and I've only read those two write ups.  so definitely listen to dala.

That's some good advice

Faht's recipe is a great place to start if you're doing coir/verm! Can always adjust with more verm if too wet, or more water if too dry.

Been starting a new set of spawn and was getting all my things in order to put together a new grow, it’s a bigger tub so I’m using my bigger bucket for shaking my coir/spawn mixture. But I forgot I hadn’t cleaned it out from the last time, I’ve had it sealed though so I opened it to this

Thought it was cool so figured I’d share:stoned:

My last batch of ACC colonized the sub beautifully and gave me a nice flush, but triched out right as I was about to harvest. This batch is giving me blobs and before full colonization. Same substrate of straight coir, same ratio 1:2, same type of shoebox, same lineage of plates. What gives?
