Spore syringes are made from spores and sterile water, Liquid Culture is made from mycelium and nutrients. Nope! Your cakes will be perfectly fine while you are gone.:mushroom2:

RR used to preach that only flame (or I guess, red hot) truly sterilizes, i.e. nothing survives.  So that's probably why you'll find it in the teks - particularly the older ones.

Whether it's overkill, or even somewhat counterproductive in this particular situation, I couldn't say

word thanks for the input. upon zooming in i did see some slightly fuzzy feet, and the coir was a couple weeks post-pasteurization when i went to bulk so could be a bit dry, good call. i’ll give em a lil drink and some air and send updates in a few days. looking like a good group so far 🤞

Back then pcs weren't commonplace and people were sterilizing syringes by sucking up boiling water into them. If that's how I were doing it, id definitely flame sterilize. 

A pc sterilizes tools find and im sure RR would agree

You are in good company on this. Why flame a needle that is sterile? Feels like fixing something that isn't broken. I don't flame the needles on my LI & LC syringes on the first use when drawing it out of the jars. The packaging says it's sterile :shrug::mushroom2:

QQ: Have some BRF cakes soaking and noticed that one container had produced some pressure inside, enough that it squirted a little water out when I cracked the lid open.  Is that normal, or something bacterial going on :uhoh:

What lid setup are you using? That shouldn't happen with traditional pf lids.

Any noticeable smell?

True that, the first one I did, I used the syringe and needle right out the packaging, sucked up a little SSLC, poked and back in the SSLC again, worked good. Then I did a second one the same way and that got bacterial.

So I went back to following the tek to a t, well almost, since I didn't flame the needle, but the tek might be better because I only have to open the SSLC once. So happy about your sporeless x7x+ working out AW :hug:

They're soaking in plastic quart containers.  I'd say they smelled "mushroom like" when I took them out of the jars, but these are my first babies so I have nothing to compare them to.  Only 1 of the 3 did it, and was also the slowest jar to colonize.

for sporeless or veil-less varieties how do  you know when they're ready? i have some natal moons that r pretty short n stout but look like they're starting to open up a bit

Look for the cap color to lighten fruits to go soft

That's totally fair, I'm all about being super careful, and following steps to a t until success. Although after doing something the same way dozens of times, it's just natural to want to know why, maybe even find out the hard way :rofl: or save a step in the long term :mushroom2:

How many fruits are you cloning?

I just hope I can get this SSLC prep and inoculation down, these wild species don't really like grains and they are so slow that a wedge to AIO is going to take forever, I think the AIO's would dry out before the Semilanceata colonizes from a single wedge inoculation :lol:
