Damn right. Cold species respond better to old vendor fridges in particular

I bet it is the blatant branding. And the lack of refrigerant, this thing could do 60F all day, yo!

Oh you know... My walk in cooler haha

I keep my walk in cooler at 50 now for current species. Have pelliculosa in there now fruiting

I have a Snapple fridge that I'm keeping at 60 currently for caerulipes.

And then I have small mini fridge that I'm using for the caeruleorhiza

Very nice, whats the substrate? How do you trigger fruiting? I somehow doubt it is just temperature drop?

Regarding the Thread, i just know about the Fridge from bob:

Wow bro, that's absolutely beautiful. So do you mean to say, after full colonization, you can get subaeruginosa to fruit by just keeping it at 60Β°f? Also, let me know if you used a casing & how necessary it was verses one w/o!

Temperature drop and nutrient depletion is pinning trigger.

Sub is conifer and hardwood mixture mixed with pine needle litter. Topped with decayed beech and coir

Not full colonization. 80% seems to be the sweet spot. And no casing for Section Cyanescens or Aztecorum. If I were to ever use a casing for them, it would just be pasteurized leaf litter

Wow!
I sincerely appreciate your dedication and thoroughness! Very nice set up capturing nearly all growth parameters. As I was reading I was thinking of bobwastaken and his fridge set up from years past. Then β€œboom” there he is contributing. I took a long break from the site and cultivation but now that I’m retired I’m looking forward to getting back into it and being inspired by the likes of you. I was trained as a (social) scientist and taught research methods and statistics for decades. The particular methods / techniques of biological science are sometimes different but the basic principles of systematic observation and comparison are common essentials.
Keep up the good work!
Here is my first β€œindoor” Ps. Cyanescens grow just for fun. I use quotation marks because most of it was indoors but I did place it outside from time to time:

I planted grass seed in the casing to help create a micro climate for pinning.  I have also used alfalfa seeds / seedling to good effect with Ps. Allenii.

Hey Adas, long time no see, nice that you are still active  How is it going so far? Let's see how far i will come with this setup. maybe i should try first some cyans, subs, ovoids or allenii before i tackle the azzies right away, but the azzies where the fastest of all my 3 cultures, so i started with them.

Thank you. Back then when bobwastaken was the first fridge-guy i knew he was already very helpful. Love it that he just came in and dropped an info-bomb

The first initial idea of modifiing a fridge came from bobwastaken's jounral about his fridge. Since then i have used this idea to not only grow chillis or prepare shashlik but also write my bachelors thesis about it. The current state is another rewrite of the software with the same hardware.

So very funny what bobs contribution back then resulted in. So thanks bobwastaken for having that impact on me.

Do I need to do anything special to take a print from outdoor woodlovers? I'm guessing it will be dirty AF. I saw that hob does dry pasteurization using a dehydrator.

What about taking a clone? Anything special besides using water agar? I thought I read something about using peroxide to help with wild clones?

Peroxide can help clean wild clone tissue, yes.

Print your cap a couple of times, and when you take tissue samples don’t be scared of making at least a couple of plates. It 100% can be cleaned up, but it might just be a little more work than you’re practiced with. Don’t be afraid of breaking out tools like BRF pucks and pasteurizing your spores. You are, theoretically, only a couple of transfers away from clean myc at all times.

I was able to make a couple cyan clone cultures last year without too much trouble, not as easy as cubes with the nice thick stipes but doable. Tweezers proved easier than than a scalpel for taking tissue samples. Spore Printing was pretty straightforward and not as full of contaminants as you would think.

When I print outdoor woodlovers, I will double print them. Primary print gets thrown away and the secondary is the keeper. I'll usually let the first print print for about 3-4 hours, hopefully losing most contaminants on print #1.

Cloning doesn't have to be very hard either, especially when the fruit is dry. Don't try to clone wet fruits and it should be fine. I haven't needed any tricks or peroxide at all this way.

I honestly don't suggest cloning woodlovers like cyans azurs ect, it is a crapshoot it can work out great or shitty and it's not like cubes where you'll know in a matter of weeks , it could take over a year to see if it was a worthy clone, ms is the safe bet imo

Thanks for the advice guys. I had some caps flatten out, but were still had light gills. Do spores start dropping quite a while after the caps flatten? Do gills darken before spores? Or will they drop from a lightly filled flat cap?

These fruit went straight into the dehydrator, but this is what I mean by flat caps

They most times will be dropping spores before the caps flatten, and before the gills darken. The sooner you print them before they completely flatten the less contaminants, but you might not get as dark a print.

Edit: thought I was answering to Cron

Really?
Not argueing with your experience here btw. However

That is not my experience at all. Every clone I took has been prolific. IWL, Cyan, Azure.

In every case I was lucky to have good source clusters to clone from. I think it depends on what you have to work with. But if you ever run into that dream cluster of massive fruits I highly recommend cloning the best fruits out of the cluster. It hasn't let me down yet.

I've never tried cloning single WL fruits so I cannot speak on that.
