How do you do that? beef.

I saw somebody else do that and was curious. I'm talking about hiding a message under the Black Box until you click it to reveal it.

Also. I couldn't tell if that was a trench or Shadow on his plate either. but it appears it's not a shadow cuz it's still in the other pic.if its not a trench.  That line  separating the cullture in two on on the plate doesn't concern you at all? Not questioning you. just curious again.

Cuz I would send that plate as well. But I also have some worries in my mind about that line from everything I read in dk's dv8's thread. Im  Just not experienced enough to actually know.

I'm on team parafilm btw .only Because I spent like 60 bucks on a roll in the beginning before learning otherwise. And until I run out of it and try something else that's just the way it's going to be LOL

So technically I'm an independent party.:toast:

if you quote the comment you can see the code but its just the button with the *** btween thw gradient and hyperlink buttons. "spoiler".

i mean.. its an odd plate and ideally id probably take some transfers from it but im known to send all kinds of questionable plates and getting a canopy from it.

What does it mean to "canal it"?

Its another form of cabin sequestration.

In the cabin

Canal or trenching

Is where you split the agar into two pieces by making a trench or Canal down it.  a big gap where the agar is removed.

It's beneficial if you have a really dirty plate and you're trying to clean it up but having trouble. Basically the culture will jump across
the Gap and leave the contam behind.

Im sure there's a tek on it. Someone else might be able to find it quicker than me if there is.

Found it

Agar Plates and Removing Hidden Contaminants. A Visual Notebook

This guide is a mush read by DV8 it is really good. If you scroll down a little towards the middle. You'll see a section titled the trench. This is where you will get your info on the canal.

that is very even colonization so if I were you I'd look into what is different about the end that fruited.

I noticed two things:

1. The sub thickness is uneven. I knew this tub had a high corner from the start, but I had already smoothed, compressed, and pseudo-cased by the time I noticed, and it didn't seem bad enough to muck with at the time...

2. The other side has notably dryer surface conditions. Still moist enough to see condensation on the sides and lid, but not nearly as much nice water beading. The sub has also already started to pull away from the sides--more significantly on the side with all the growth obviously, but a little even on the other side.

Some of the veils already broke on a small number of fruits and they were opening up and getting ready to sporulate, so I plucked those and threw them in the dehydrator. Still plenty growing though, and the dryer side still has a fair number of pins, but growing slower. The ones I picked were fairly small fruits though.. Not sure if due to genetics, available water, or what, since this is my first really productive monotub grow, and my first grow from this particular vendor LC.

Should I bottom water? Mist? Throw some micropore tape over some of the holes? LITFA?

Thanks crew!

I don't think anyone answered my question, so I figured I'd just follow up myself for posterity with: I pulled just shy of 500g wet off the first flush of this tub. Many, MANY of the fruits are annoyingly small (microfruit?) with hollow stipes, but it was an awful lot of them. I bottom watered and let it sit for a few hours and the sub soaked almost all of it up. I dumped out the little bit left, and the tub is back in on the shelf, still looking good, and waiting for a second flush (hopefully with much bigger fruit!).

...and I owe it all to you glorious bastards.  Thanks again.

I would give it a couple more bottom Waters or. even dunk it for an hour maybe( if you harvested everything). If  you're going to bottom water it to re hydrate. keep putting a little bit in and let it soak it up until it stops soaking it up and then dump it out. If your mono is kind of big this might be the easier option. Cuz then you don't have to worry about dumping the water out and your sub breaking in half or falling out in the process.

This isnt mush of a issue with shoeboxes tho.

A very very heavy misting could also even work. just not the most desired option in your case.

You want to make sure you got a good amount of rehydration for the next flush.

In the future yes bottom watering is a good idea. As I said above though if you notice it sucked it all up. Add a little more.

When your bottom watering in the middle of a flush wjich is most common done. like to help them grow to their potential. Then you can let it sit for a day or two just don't let it get stagnant.

Small fruits can be a combination of all the things you said. Definitely genetics. And definitely environment can have a play in that as well.

Sometimes second flushes will just be better. or the first flush  can be amazing if all the appropriate water and environment has been given to it the first time around.  Or it's just a crapshoot all the way around.depedning on  genetics.

You can grab some spores and go back. And try again. And then start selecting fruits that are bigger. More potent. Don't have hollow stipes etc. Whatever the characters you're looking for and then try to clone and replicate them.

Good luck!  Have fun :sunny:

I will try that. I didn't harvest fully, but the ones I left behind because the veils haven't torn yet have mostly now torn, so I'll finish harvesting this flush tomorrow (probably mostly scraping the pins and microfruit into the garbage disposal) and give it another soak.

Do you mean let it sit in the puddle from bottom watering for a couple days and don't dump it out? I was under the impression that was a no-no...?

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate the time.

Typically, I'll give it a soak for a day. More than that feels risky.

not sure about other active species but I'm pretty sure some degree of hollow stipe is a morphilogical characteristic inherent to all ps cubensis.

No, it's not.
I've seen plenty of examples of people slicing Cubensis that are solid all the way through and needed to be cut to be dried all the way.

Hollow stipes is not normal.

In my experience as long as your water isn't getting gross and yellow and stagnant it's okay. But I typically dump it after a day or two just because I have also felt like it could be risky. But I've Been Told what I just stated about as long as it's clean it's okay.

However if you bottom water and it all gets sucked up and then you do it again and it all get sucked up there's. Once its not longer soakingbup water your good.  no point in letting it sit in water after that cuz it's not going to suck anymore up beyond that point.

But yes typically to be on the safe side give it a bottom water. let it sit for a day or two and dump out whatever hasn't been soaked up.

Ya usually.  I  def agree.  Lol i need to follow my own advice.  Once it stopped soaking it up no need to let it sit. And 24 hours is long enough to let it soak up as much as it could. Thanks for keeping me on the right track gen  and making things less complicated. Lol

Works great for shoeboxes.  I imagine you could also do it with a mono. I've never done a mono. So I wouldn't know.

I mean I know it's possible probably just a little bit more of a pain in the ass to deal with a bigger tub

I need to get on the shoebox train. I have a mono coming up soon. Gonna prep some spawn this weekend and do some agar work then maybe I'll have time to research shoeboxes for my next bulk grow. My calendar is looking like a lot of fun! Gotta fit time to munch some, too!
