Looks like its a germ or clone plate right? Going with myc. take some transfers from the edges and it should clean up and get to looking a little more typical.

Hi there,

I'm completely new to this field.

I bought a grow at home kit for golden teacher.

I activated it 7th August (10 days ago) and have quite the yield already...but the caps are going a brownish colour and flattening. 2 or 3 of the mushroom stems have a blackish colour to them but don't think I've touched them so it can't be bruising, can it?

The base of 2 or 3 of the shrooms have a  white fuzzy growth which I'm told is mycelium and its OK.

The area of bare substrate that I can still see is becoming darker, just one area of it is going slightly black. Im not sure if its mould though? Or part of the process.

I have performed FAE once a day. There is moisture/condensation present in the bag still.

Can someone with experience and knowledge guide me as to my next step please? That would be greatly appreciated. I want to learn from all of you geniuses on here. I admire the level of knowledge on these forums, so I joined.

I have attached some images to help with diagnosis.

Thank you in advance 🙏

A bunch of them have dumped spores. That's why everything is getting dark. Start grabbing out the bigger flatter ones and get em dry homie. Congrats

It is a transfer from a healthy brf puck. Actually have another puck left so maybe i do both.

Sounds like the mushrooms are dumping spores.

Congratulations on the grow

Wait, that's not a grow kit? The plastic box the sub is in and the bag look exactly like what I got in my first Mondo grow kit:lol:

How do I deal with fungus gnats?

I know about fly strips, the vinegar bowl/bottle method.

Obviously keeping stuff sealed and being watchful.

Any other techniques or advice?

just had some. it was suggested to me not to start new grows for a couple weeks. I also moved a few plants out of the grow space. only saw them in that one shoebox, don't seem to have spread

Are gnats that much of a problem though? I've been told they aren't as bad as you think which made me not worry too much over them and honestly so far I haven't seen any obvious damage to anything but I've been split over this for quite a while.

I've heard about using bti to combat the larvae which seems effective and supposedly won't damage the sub or mushrooms but it won't kill the adult gnats so you'll have to wait for them to die on their own, how effective is this and is it necessary?

It's more so annoying when they fly by my ears and it spooks me, also I grow plants from seeds so the less flying creatures about them and eating the roots the better.

I've not had issues with them as such, but I just want to keep the numbers down, they are rascals.

Yeah that's reasonable. I understand the annoyance of flying little shits... That's why I got me electric bug zapper going constantly. I just haven't had gnats flying around, they stayed in the FC and they were very few.

Which also gave me an idea. Are gnats drawn to light like mosquitoes? In that case a zapper could be the solution to your problem but that's just a guess.

How much of an agar plate do you transfer to a jar?

I’ve seen the video Beef posted where he did half a plate per jar but his agar almost seemed paper thin the way it was dropping. I made a jar of grain let agar plate thinking that was the move but now I’m wondering if that’s too much and could cause problems for the jar just like injecting too much LC.

I do 1/4 to half a plate but you can use a single wedge if u wanted to.

I used to drop whole plates into jars

If it's clean it's fine. The detriment with too much LC is throwing the moisture off which agar won't do

to be pretty sure a culture is going to fruit you have to spawn to bulk, right? the same culture won't necessarily produce fruit on a brf puck, for instance?

Incorrect.

Ive seen people case plates for fruit.

People transfer plate pins all the time.

A brf puck is essentially just burst grain

It would likely fruit on a brf puck but maybe not to it's full potential as it would in a bulk scenario

1:1 shoeboxes are good for testing things like that because it's small scale and quicker than pf tek

aha you'd still want to case. but then you'd feel confident if it didn't fruit, it probably wouldn't fruit spawned to bulk either?
