Re: Official Ps. Subtropicalis/Semperviva Thread [Re: Hardhead] * 1

This is a jar.  WBS inoculated from clean appearing T2 agar on 6/22/25.  Confounding factor....I've been using a bag of Dr. Mikes's magical gypsum (bought when I first started this).  It has biochar in it which creates the black specks.  Could some of those specks be contamination...I don't know.  I have 14 more jars with this type of gyspum but after this will switch to straight gypsum and if I have black specks after that, it won't be the biochar.

Thanks for all the help on here.  One day, I WILL have some subtropicalis fruits.

Looks a little dry, but not too shabby. If you’re going to go uncased you’ll need to mist regularly. 1x daily until pins and 2-3/day depending on your climate once they start fruiting. Pseudocasing only is a good way to do it, but requires a little more effort from ya

Thank you. I’ll start misting more regularly. I was already planning on misting 2-3/day once pinning started. I was just apprehensive to soak the surface before pinning. Reading through the thread (I’ve spent a lot of time reading) I can only remember one mention of misting pre-pinning with pseudocasing only.

id case with coarse verm

Excuse my ignorance, I’m just trying to learn/understand. Do you believe that these would not be successful unless cased? Is there any reason you’d choose coarse verm over other alternatives? Is there something specific about the surface conditions that led you to that suggestion? Or is it just your preferred casing medium for semps? Thanks.

no excuses are necessary.
my preferred casing is ph adjusted peat/verm casing. this gave me the fullest canopies and lasted really long.
nowadays i am trying coarse verm only to compare.

Cheers guys, ready to harvest or let them go a bit more?

Gonna try floating the sub as I notice these don't twist and pull nicely.

if you cased them they might come off more or less all at once!

Have you tried printing a couple? If they give me a good print I harvest :naughty:

If you do that and rip up all the casing do you re-case them?

I haven't taken a print, I probably should have. Are they past that point or I can print some now even after they've dropped a ton of spores.

Yeah, they can stay in the tubs for a couple of days, take some caps and try to print them. I asked because even if I don't need prints, I like to check if they are dropping spores before I harvest.

Question. My subs have been doing fairly good for a couple months now. 20-30 at a time every couple weeks. But, I have noticed that when I harvest them, there is no blue bruising like with cubes. Is this normal for them? Or does it mean there is very little, if any, actives?

I don’t use blueing as a potency indicator. Get a test kit or consider yourself a lab rat and try some. That’s why you grew them.

I was also concerned about potency when mine didn’t blue at harvest. I was surprised because the mycelium blued when I shook the grain at 90%. I I dried and ground them for capsules anyway. They are fantastic!
