Check that thread, there's a few other things you can add like carnuba wax which also came from my fiddling.

I've made a couple gummies before...

:hotdamn:

I need to try the v3 - haven’t messed with the carnuba wax yet.
Thanks for doing the experimenting too.  Really appreciate that.

I mean, yeah, prices are gonna vary, and much of the service/tourist industry anywhere is about figuring out what the market will bear in that particular place and time. And as we all know, psilocybes are kind of a one-shot deal. It's not the same as selling someone beers all night or hooking them up with bud each day or two.

The devil is in the details, though. Who knows how the strength varies between those different products, or the consistencyof dose for that matter? I don't really like comparisons of doses based just on dry weight of material, as I think the idea that you can establish a baseline of "x amount of grams equals blah" is a spurious one. Even moreso given that we don't even know wich species we're talking about. To me, that carries right over into pricing- in Jamaica or anywhere else.

Also, can you be more specific? They're legal, right, so I mean, you can tell us exactly where these different stores were.  I'm really curious myself. Last time I was in Jamaica, weed was still illegal and the shroom boom had yet to begin.

Negril, Montego Bay and a little village in between. A lot of the resorts have shops that sell weed & shrooms at as well as individual stores outside the resorts. There is a place called The Psilly Shop in Negril just off the beach (7 Mike Beach) on the main drag.

I do agree with what you have said, but I am thinking that because of the legitimacy of the products, they are probably dosing with accuracy as the product name depends on being reliable and potent. They are creating an entire industry around shrooms. The tourism side with mushroom retreats is getting bigger by the year and will soon be one of their prime tourist draws outside of the all inclusive resorts.

I'm not sure if gummies made with such a simple recipe will stay good for long. What's the expiration date on the package?

No expiration date on them and not refrigerated.

How can these Jamaicans do this, don't they know drugs corrupt the youth? Before you know they're all baking heroin pancakes

It’s legal. 100%. From my observations of the 5 times I’ve been to Jamaica, I’d say outside of THC, for the Jamaicans other drugs aren’t as big a problem as it is elsewhere as it isn’t in their culture. Not saying the problem doesn’t exist, just not as prevalent as here. I’ve spoken to the guys on the beach selling weed & ecstasy. Ecstasy is more for the tourists they say. They don’t touch the shit.

Rev suggested potassium sorbate as a shelf stable preservative in his recipe tek.

I think citric acid can also be used. It is probably worth experimenting with no actives to see what one can come up with. I’ve made a Haribo gummy bear knock off recipe once. It came out ok. They dried out a bit, but the shelf life was excellent. They were good, but not Haribo lol

I’ve made that recipe twice already, once as a proof of concept and once with the tea.
Used a dehydrator that goes to 70f for 24hr and the Consistency is 👌🏻👌🏻
Can’t say for the shelf life though, only been about two weeks.

Thanks for the info, too, sounds like these guys with the higher-priced stuff, what with the island-wide delivery and all that, are marketing even more to someone who rents some luxury villa in Port Antonio next the the Rolling Stones' recording studio or whatever, and not just us Hoi Polloi who end up in Mo Bay or Negril for vacation lol

I had problems with my gummies melting in my dehydrator, even when running it at a lower temperature. The gummies would turn into puddles, even though they were solid enough that I couldn't pinch through them straight from the mold.

I am thinking of trying to make another batch. I've been stock piling a bunch shrooms that I'm not going to eat and have no one to give away to.

Was in Jamaica. Shrooms there are legal all the way. Cultivation, sale, purchase, possession & use. Found these there at a weed & shroom shop. Gummies. 6 pieces @ 1/2 a gram of psilocybin each. $65 USD. Super expensive I thought to myself. However, the most simplistic of gummy recipes on the ingredients. Can these be made like this? I know Mushboy had a nice recipe, but does anyone have one this simple? Look at the ingredients…

Also, the had other gummies & chocolates. The strongest they had was a single chocolate at .7g for $30 USD. That that was also insanely expensive.

that is some pretty goddamn shameless pricing.  I don't understand how that even stands up in a legal market.  thats like trying to sell $500 ounces of weed in a legal state.

I use this stuff

and these

One pouch makes about 48 gummies for me, so I just do a double extract of 48 grams and reduce that all down and mix it with the packaged stuff. Works great, and I don't use my dehydrator - I just leave them in the fridge until  they firm up a bit.

If you want to make your own gummies or anything else with hydocolloids I suggest this...

It's full of great info.

They're from a developing nation that's visited by wealthy tourists. Tourists who don't have the local knowledge to find their own, and who are risking jail by flying with their own supply.

I bet a large portion of consumers weren't more than curious about mushrooms before seeing the package. They're on vacation and figure, "why not?". They don't know what the price ought to be.

We also don't know what strain/species the gummies are made with. .7g of cubes will make things mildly interesting for a first timer, but .7g of pans might send them into outerspace.

So they're at the crossroads of wealthy, (typically) uninformed customers, cornered supply, and anonymity. If anything, they could charge more.

There's $60 8ths for sale at the dispensaries 'round my way. And that's not even getting into the pricing on some of the edibles.

And good luck getting a nice sit-down meal and a few drinks for less than $50 per person, bare minimum. Definitely looking at around $200 for just a normal-ass hotel room.

And it wouldn't be international jetsettees paying those prices, just average visitors in town to see a ballgame or whatever.

Adjusted for inflation, the prices we paid for shrooms in the late 90's were bonkers. And that was zero value added, just an 8th of shrooms in a bag.

The whole concept of "ought to" is relative.

Jussayin'.

Exactly. The only upper limit is what people will pay. I was just trying to explain that tourists have an upper limit that's beyond what average shroomery.

In my country, you can get $80 ounces mailed to your door. Even weed is cheap if you go grey market. Like $250 for a QP of decent quality bud. Way better than the legal market.

I'm gonna be a bit pedantic here. No offense intended to anyone.

  • I think you meant Milkboy rather than mushboy for the simple gummy recipe. Mush is a tea connoisseur if I am not mistaken. But based on Milk's recipe, I think this would work well.

  • I agree that agar agar gummies kind of suck, though. The texture is all wrong. They dry out and get hard after a while. And a little agar is fine to consume, but a lot will give you bubble guts and the runs. It is known as a natural laxative. No need to add any stomach distress to mushrooms, they already do that well enough on their own for many people.

  • Their package says 3 grams total psilocybin or 0.5 grams per gummy. I am pretty sure that they mean grams of dried mushrooms, not psilocybin. 0.5 grams of psilocybin is approximately the amount in 50 grams of dried cubensis. Probably simpler for most people to calculate in dried mushroom equivalent so I see why they list it that way. But it is going to be pretty confusing in the long run when they list the actives incorrectly like that. If they are not being accurate about that, what else are they playing fast and loose with?
     :2cents:

@AZ Did you try them or know anyone that did? I am curious about the texture, taste, and if the potency felt right. I am sure I would have paid the premium just for the sake science.

I am not surprised that they don't use any preservatives, though. Most people will eat them right away while on vacation. No FDA to worry about. More return customers if they don't last long. It really is less profitable to make them last when you can just make and sell more for very low expense at high prices.

Still pretty cool. Might need a little Jamaican vacation, mon.

Edit: O shit, did I say mushboy three times? Nope, just once.

shitty legalization legislation.  the states that have home-grow allowances keep that garbage in hard check.  now that there is a developed industry, that industry is lobbying and helping write the shitty laws for the states still under prohibition.

its pretty scum-fucky when the weed industry in one state actively lobbies to maintain prohibition in a neighboring state because they like all that cross-border business and lack of competition.

My state has home-grow provisions, and illegal underground growing and dealing remain a mostly unenforced slap on the wrist. Also, just to be clear, the same dispensaries that sell some fancy $60 8ths will typically also have Clearance 8ths for $20-$25.

There are definitely plenty of other issues with the industry here, don't get me wrong, but $60 dispensary 8ths are more just a function of people having disposable income and being dazzled by the convenience and abundance of options. That, and covid destroying any concept of community, social life, or hollerin' at your boy.
